Way of the Hunter does not support cross-platform multiplayer. Cross-save and cross-progression between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S are not confirmed by the available official FAQ. For the mobile edition, HandyGames said on August 7, 2024, that automatic synchronization with console or PC was not planned. Manual save copying was described only as a possibility if the files remain compatible, not as a supported transfer feature.
What you can safely assume
If you start a career on one platform, you should not buy another version expecting your hunting progress to appear automatically. There is no documented account-linking process, cloud-sync switch, or in-game transfer command that guarantees this result.

- The official FAQ identifies PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S as the main platforms.
- That FAQ answers the question “Will the game feature cross-platform multiplayer?” with “Sorry, no.”
- The FAQ does not explicitly confirm or deny cross-save or cross-progression between the main PC and console versions.
- HandyGames said automatic console/PC-to-mobile synchronization was not planned.
- Manual copying to or from mobile was mentioned as something that might be possible if save files stayed compatible, with no guarantee or supported procedure.
Those points are different from a firm “yes” or “no” for every possible pair of platforms. The responsible answer is therefore: cross-platform multiplayer is definitely unavailable; cross-save among PC, PS5, and Xbox is unconfirmed; and mobile synchronization was specifically not planned as an automatic feature.

Cross-save
Cross-save means the same save data can be used on more than one platform. For example, you might stop playing on PC, open the PS5 version, and continue from the same character, missions, money, equipment, and discovered content.

Cross-progression
Cross-progression is the broader idea that your progression follows your account across versions. Depending on the game, this can include campaign progress, unlocks, statistics, inventories, trophies or achievements, and purchased add-ons. A game may synchronize some of these items while leaving others tied to the platform where they were bought.
Why the distinction matters here
The available official information does not document either a full cross-save system or a partial cross-progression system for the PC, PS5, and Xbox versions. It also does not describe which items would transfer if a save could be moved manually. Treating an absent explanation as proof of compatibility could leave you with separate careers on each platform.

“Not confirmed” is intentional. It does not mean that a transfer is impossible; it means the cited official FAQ does not provide a guarantee that can be relied on when buying or changing platforms.

Can you move a save from PC to PS5 or Xbox?
There is no officially documented PC-to-console migration path in the information available for this article. You should not assume that copying a file to a USB drive, linking the same store account, or signing in with the same email will convert a PC save into a console save. PC and console releases can use different file locations, formats, account identifiers, and update histories.
PC to PlayStation 5
The FAQ lists both versions but does not state that a PC save can be imported on PS5. Unless a newer support notice provides a specific export/import process, plan on starting a separate PS5 progression.
PC to Xbox Series X/S
The same limitation applies. A Microsoft account or a purchase made through a particular store is not, by itself, evidence that the game shares save data with the PC edition.
PlayStation 5 to Xbox Series X/S
No official cross-save confirmation is supplied for this pair. Their platform services are separate, so a PS5 cloud backup should not be expected to restore on Xbox.

Console to PC, or one console to another console
The direction of the transfer does not change the evidence. The available FAQ leaves these relationships unresolved, and no supported transfer workflow is described.
What about the mobile version?
Mobile is the one platform combination addressed directly by a developer statement. In an official Steam community discussion, HandyGames wrote on August 7, 2024:
“We don’t plan to have real cross platform save game functionality in the sense that you can sync your progress between console/pc and mobile versions automatically (or by pressing a button to do that).”
“It MIGHT be possible to copy your save game manually since the save game data might stay compatible.”

The first sentence rules out an advertised automatic sync system as a planned feature at that time. The second is conditional: compatibility might exist, but the statement does not promise that files will match, explain where to find them, provide a safe conversion method, or offer support if a copied file fails.
Why manual copying is risky
- A save can become incompatible after a mobile or desktop update.
- Replacing the wrong file can overwrite newer progress.
- Cloud backups may restore an older version after a failed experiment.
- Platform-specific purchases or entitlements may not be recognized by another build.
- There is no stated recovery guarantee if the copied data becomes corrupted.
Unless HandyGames publishes a current, step-by-step procedure for your exact versions, treat manual copying as an unsupported experiment rather than a feature included with the game.
Cross-platform multiplayer is a separate limitation
Save sharing and multiplayer matchmaking solve different problems. The official FAQ explicitly says that Way of the Hunter will not feature cross-platform multiplayer. A PC player therefore cannot rely on joining a friend’s session from PS5 or Xbox, even if a future update were to clarify save handling.

The “Sorry, no” answer addresses play with people on another platform. It does not establish whether every online mode, co-op option, or same-platform session is available in every edition. Check the current platform listing for the mode you intend to use instead of inferring it from cross-save discussions.
DLC, Hunter’s Pack, and season-pass ownership
The FAQ says the Hunter’s Pack remains available after launch, the season pass can be purchased separately after release, and downloadable content can be bought separately. These are separate commercial entitlements, so a purchase on one platform should not be presumed to unlock the corresponding content on another.
The official PlayStation listing describes an in-game economy in which you hunt animals, sell meat, and buy gear, hunting passes, and taxidermy for trophy stands. That description explains what the PlayStation edition contains; it does not promise that your gear, passes, trophies, or add-on licenses will follow you to PC, Xbox, or mobile.
Before buying an add-on on a second platform
- Confirm which platform store account will own the purchase.
- Check whether the item is listed as part of the base game, Hunter’s Pack, season pass, or a separate DLC package.
- Look for a current publisher or platform statement that explicitly describes cross-entitlement.
- Assume you may need to buy the add-on again if you change ecosystems.
Do not use the presence of a shared save, if one is later confirmed, as proof that paid content is shared. Games frequently treat save data and store entitlements differently.

If you play on one system most of the time
Choose the platform where you expect to spend the majority of your hunting time. With no confirmed PC-to-console or console-to-console progression, this avoids building a long career on a system you may soon abandon.

If you own both a PC and a console
Decide whether convenience, graphics settings, controller preference, or playing from the sofa is more important than keeping one continuous save. Until an explicit cross-save announcement appears, budget time for separate progress.
If you are considering mobile
Buy the mobile version for mobile play itself, not as a guaranteed continuation of your desktop or console career. The August 7, 2024 statement specifically rejected planned automatic synchronization.

If you mainly play with friends
Coordinate on the same platform family before purchasing. Cross-platform multiplayer is unavailable according to the FAQ, so buying different editions can prevent you from joining one another even when the game title is identical.
What to check before switching systems
- Read the latest official FAQ and platform store description for your edition.
- Check the game’s version number on both devices and install pending updates before testing any supported transfer.
- Back up the original save using the platform’s normal cloud or local backup feature.
- Do not delete the original installation or overwrite its save until the new platform has loaded and verified your data.
- Record which DLC, Hunter’s Pack items, and season-pass content you own on each store account.
- If support suggests a manual copy, request instructions for the exact operating system, edition, and save format rather than using an internet guide written for another version.
Common misconceptions
“Same account means same save”
Signing into the same email, console account, or store profile does not prove that the game’s save service is shared between platforms. Cross-save requires explicit implementation by the developer and platform services.
“No cross-play means no cross-save”
They are independent features. A game can offer one without the other. In this case, cross-platform multiplayer is explicitly unavailable, while main-platform cross-save is simply not settled by the available FAQ.
“A manual file copy is an official transfer tool”
HandyGames described mobile copying as something that might be possible if compatibility remains. That wording is not a supported, guaranteed migration service.
“Buying DLC once covers every version”
The FAQ’s separate Hunter’s Pack, season-pass, and DLC availability means you should verify ownership per platform. No universal cross-platform entitlement is stated.
What would count as a real cross-save confirmation?
Look for a current official notice that names the supported platform pairs and explains the account or linking method. A reliable announcement would normally specify whether synchronization is automatic, which progress categories transfer, how conflicts are resolved, whether mobile is included, and how DLC licenses are handled.
