Yes. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, released on September 29, 2026, supports PS5 Pro ray tracing. Its Ray Tracing Mode adds enhanced lighting while targeting 60 FPS. Performance Mode targets 60 FPS at higher resolution and can reach up to 90 FPS when the console is connected to a VRR-capable display.
Those are publisher targets for the Remastered release, not guarantees for every scene. The older 30-FPS description you may have seen applies to the 2022 next-generation version, not the current PS5 Pro release.

What the current PS5 Pro version supports
The relevant edition is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. CD PROJEKT RED released it on September 29, 2026, and its PS5 feature notes dated September 28 describe dedicated PS5 Pro support. The feature set includes two graphics modes, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), variable refresh rate (VRR), and support for uncapped frame rates.
Ray tracing is therefore available on PS5 Pro, but the current documentation describes the mode in terms of its visual goal and frame-rate target rather than listing every technical ray-tracing technique. The notes say that Ray Tracing Mode brings enhanced lighting while targeting 60 FPS. They do not confirm that every technique used by the older console mode, such as a particular form of global illumination or ambient occlusion, remains unchanged in the Remastered PS5 Pro implementation.

Patch 5.01, released October 8, 2026, is part of the current version context. It added several console graphics controls and included optimizations and visual adjustments involving ray tracing.
Ray Tracing Mode: what it prioritizes
Choose Ray Tracing Mode when your first priority is the publisher-described lighting upgrade. The mode is designed to provide enhanced lighting and has a stated 60-FPS target on PS5 Pro.
“Target” is important. It describes the performance objective supplied by the publisher, not a frame-rate measurement in every location, combat encounter, or camera angle. No independent benchmark establishes a locked 60 FPS, a specific output resolution, or a consistent frame time for all scenes.
The official feature summary also does not provide a numeric resolution for Ray Tracing Mode. Avoid treating it as a fixed-resolution preset or assuming that its internal rendering resolution is identical to Performance Mode. The documented distinction is the priority: enhanced lighting in Ray Tracing Mode versus higher resolution in Performance Mode.
Performance Mode: resolution and high-refresh displays
Performance Mode puts higher resolution ahead of the enhanced-lighting description attached to Ray Tracing Mode. It targets 60 FPS and, according to CD PROJEKT RED, can reach up to 90 FPS on VRR-capable displays.
The 90-FPS figure is a stated ceiling, not a promise that the game will run at 90 FPS continuously. It applies specifically to Performance Mode and a display that supports VRR. The publisher does not provide a scene-by-scene frame-rate guarantee or a numeric resolution for this mode either.
If your television or monitor does not support VRR, you can still use Performance Mode and its 60-FPS target. You should not expect the documented “up to 90 FPS” behavior without a VRR-capable display, and even with VRR the result can vary by scene and setup.
| Mode | Published priority | Published performance target | Display condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ray Tracing Mode | Enhanced lighting | Targets 60 FPS | No VRR requirement is stated for using ray tracing |
| Performance Mode | Higher resolution | Targets 60 FPS; up to 90 FPS is stated | The up-to-90-FPS statement applies to VRR-capable displays |
PSSR, VRR and uncapped frame rates
PSSR
PS5 Pro support introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR. CD PROJEKT RED describes it as a way to deliver higher visual fidelity without compromising performance. The published notes do not state an output resolution, an internal resolution, or a pixel-by-pixel comparison, so those figures should not be inferred from the PSSR label.
VRR
VRR is listed as a supported PS5 feature. Its practical relevance in the published specifications is Performance Mode’s stated ability to reach up to 90 FPS on a VRR-capable display. VRR is not presented as a prerequisite for enabling Ray Tracing Mode.
Uncapped frame rates
The PS5 feature list also includes uncapped frame rates. That wording indicates support for frame-rate output that is not limited to a single conventional cap under the appropriate mode and display conditions. It does not establish a guaranteed rate, and it does not replace the specific up-to-90-FPS qualification attached to Performance Mode.

How to enable ray tracing on PS5 Pro
The official notes identify the graphics mode names but do not publish a button-by-button menu path. They also do not document a separate ray-tracing toggle or say that VRR must be enabled before Ray Tracing Mode appears.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo use the documented option, make sure you are running the Remastered release, install the current update available for your console, open the game’s graphics settings, and select Ray Tracing Mode. The exact menu wording, location, and confirmation button can vary with the installed build and system language, so rely on the labels shown by your copy rather than an assumed navigation sequence.
If you want the higher-resolution alternative, return to the same graphics settings area and select Performance Mode. A VRR-capable display is relevant to the mode’s stated up-to-90-FPS behavior, but it is not documented as necessary to select either graphics mode.
Patch 5.01 graphics controls
Patch 5.01 added three named graphics options to the console settings:
- Bloom, which controls the treatment of bright light and glow effects.
- Light Shafts, an option for visible shafts or beams of light.
- Depth of Field, which controls camera-focus blur effects.
These controls are separate from the two headline graphics modes. Selecting Ray Tracing Mode does not mean that Bloom, Light Shafts, or Depth of Field must be enabled, and choosing Performance Mode does not remove the distinction between those options and the mode selector. Patch 5.01 also reports optimizations and visual adjustments that include ray tracing, but the notes do not assign a separate performance number to each option.

Choose Ray Tracing Mode if lighting is your priority
Ray Tracing Mode is the logical starting point if you want the enhanced-lighting presentation described by the publisher. Its stated target is 60 FPS, so it is not positioned as the older 30-FPS console ray-tracing preset.
Choose Performance Mode if resolution and motion are your priorities
Performance Mode is the better fit when you prefer the publisher’s higher-resolution focus and want to take advantage of a high-refresh, VRR-capable display. Its stated target is also 60 FPS, with up to 90 FPS described for compatible VRR setups.
Do not treat either choice as a universal winner
CD PROJEKT RED has not published a numeric resolution comparison, a guaranteed frame-rate lock, or independent testing for every scene. The most defensible choice depends on whether you value the enhanced-lighting description or the higher-resolution and high-refresh objective. Switching modes in your own setup is the practical way to decide which presentation you prefer.
Why older articles say ray tracing is 30 FPS
The apparent contradiction comes from version changes. The December 2022 next-generation update documentation described PS5 Ray Tracing Mode as ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion with dynamic resolution targeting 30 FPS. It described Performance Mode as targeting 60 FPS.
Those specifications belong to the earlier next-generation version. They should not be copied into an explanation of the September 2026 Remastered release on PS5 Pro. The current Remastered notes instead describe Ray Tracing Mode as enhanced lighting targeting 60 FPS, and Performance Mode as higher resolution targeting 60 FPS with up to 90 FPS on VRR-capable displays.

The historical descriptions remain useful only when identifying which edition an older guide discusses. They are not a current PS5 Pro performance specification.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What you need for the documented feature set
- A PlayStation 5 Pro running the Remastered edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
- The current game update, including Patch 5.01 dated October 8, 2026, if you want the added console graphics controls and the latest listed optimizations.
- A VRR-capable television or monitor if you want to pursue the publisher’s stated Performance Mode ceiling of up to 90 FPS.
- A display connection and system configuration that actually supports VRR; the game notes do not claim that every display can use that feature.
You do not need a VRR display merely to enable Ray Tracing Mode. The published information connects VRR to the up-to-90-FPS Performance Mode statement, not to ray-tracing availability itself.
Free upgrade eligibility
CD PROJEKT RED’s September 29, 2026 release announcement says that qualifying existing owners receive the Remastered upgrade free. That means an eligible owner should not treat the Remastered PS5 Pro feature set as requiring a second purchase solely to obtain the upgrade. Eligibility depends on the edition and ownership status recognized by the publisher, so check the offer shown for your account or copy before assuming it applies to every release.

What to check when the result does not match expectations
The ray-tracing option is missing
First verify that the installed game is the 2026 Remastered release rather than an older next-generation build, and check that the latest available patch is installed. The official feature notes name Ray Tracing Mode for the Remastered PS5 Pro version; they do not promise that the same label appears in every earlier edition.
You do not see 90 FPS
Confirm that you are using Performance Mode and that the display is VRR-capable. Even then, “up to 90 FPS” is a maximum described by the publisher, not a constant result in every scene. The game notes provide no independent benchmark that would let you diagnose a particular location or camera angle.
The image looks different after an update
Patch 5.01 changed console graphics settings by adding Bloom, Light Shafts, and Depth of Field, alongside optimizations and visual adjustments that include ray tracing. Recheck those individual options as well as the main graphics mode instead of assuming that a patch changed only the mode selector.
You are comparing screenshots or older guides
Check the date and version named by the material you are reading. A 30-FPS ray-tracing statement is evidence about the 2022 next-generation update, while the current PS5 Pro Remastered description targets 60 FPS in Ray Tracing Mode. Mixing the two versions produces an incorrect recommendation.

The current publisher notes do not establish an exact output resolution for either mode, a guaranteed frame rate in every scene, the precise ray-tracing techniques used on PS5 Pro, or a universal visual-quality ranking. They also do not publish an exact menu path for changing modes. Those gaps matter when interpreting videos, screenshots, or claims that present a single measured result as if it applied to every console and display.
For the clearest expectation, read the mode labels as priorities and targets: enhanced lighting at a 60-FPS target for Ray Tracing Mode, and higher resolution at a 60-FPS target with up to 90 FPS on VRR-capable displays for Performance Mode.
