Yes—the Galaxy S20+ is listed by Samsung as an eSIM-supported model, but support is not guaranteed on every S20+. Availability depends on the country and carrier, and Samsung says an eSIM requires a wireless service plan. Check your phone’s exact model and market of origin, then confirm that your carrier supports eSIM for that device and plan.
Why the answer depends on your S20+
Samsung’s global announcement includes the Galaxy S20+ in the S20 models that support eSIM. Samsung also qualifies that statement: availability may vary by country and carrier, and a wireless service plan is required. Samsung Global Newsroom’s S20 announcement therefore establishes support for the model family, not for every regional variant.
Samsung’s regional support pages illustrate the difference. Its Japanese supported-device list omits the S20+, while its Ukrainian page includes the S20 family and cautions that a device’s country of origin can affect availability. A listing for one country cannot establish compatibility for a handset sold in another. Samsung Japan’s eSIM and carrier page and Samsung Ukraine’s eSIM guidance show why checking the device’s intended market matters.
How to check your particular phone
- Find the model number. On the phone, open Settings > About phone and note the model number shown there.
- Establish its market of origin. Use the original purchase or device documentation if you have it; Samsung warns that country of origin can affect eSIM availability.
- Check Samsung support for that market. Use the applicable regional support information rather than assuming a list from another country covers your handset.
- Confirm with your carrier. Ask whether it will activate eSIM on that exact model and whether your intended plan supports eSIM. Samsung makes both country and carrier availability conditions, and requires a wireless service plan.
Model-specific listings can help identify a variant, but they do not prove that eSIM is enabled or eligible for a particular line. For example, Samsung’s US business support page identifies the unlocked S20+ 5G model as SM-G986U1 and lists its physical slot as SIM + Micro SD. Treat that as a specification for that model, not confirmation of carrier activation. Samsung US Business Support: Galaxy S20+ 5G unlocked.

How eSIM works with the SIM tray and microSD
Samsung UK describes the S20 range as having a hybrid SIM tray and supporting eSIM. Its listed arrangements include a physical SIM in slot 1; a physical SIM plus microSD; two physical SIMs; or one physical SIM, microSD, and eSIM. The limit is two active SIMs at once: the phone does not use two physical SIMs and an eSIM simultaneously. These tray and configuration details are from Samsung UK’s guidance, so check regional documentation for your variant. Samsung UK: What SIM cards can I use with my S20?
