No documented evidence shows that Poly’s BT700 USB Bluetooth adapter has lower audio latency than a computer’s built-in Bluetooth. Poly and HP describe the adapter’s compatibility and call-related features, but the reviewed material gives no latency measurement or controlled comparison. Choose it for supported Poly headset integration—not for a proven speed advantage.
What the BT700 does—and what is not established
HP lists the Poly BT700 USB-A adapter as compatible with PCs that have USB-A, and with Windows and macOS. Its listed Bluetooth profiles are A2DP, AVRCP, and HSP. Check the exact adapter and headset model before buying or connecting one: compatibility is model-specific. HP’s BT700 product specifications identify the product and its listed compatibility.
The Voyager Focus 2 guide describes the BT700/BT700C as the headset’s adapter and covers PC connection, media configuration, and Poly Lens setup. Poly recommends its adapter for connection, softphone functionality, and acoustic sound quality. Those are manufacturer-described benefits, not measurements of audio delay. The Voyager Focus 2 User Guide does not report a BT700 latency figure or compare it with a computer’s built-in Bluetooth.

It is a feature explanation, not a latency test. Poly’s BT600 technical tip does not establish a speed advantage over built-in Bluetooth.
#1 Best Overall
- Connects To: PC/Mac via USB-C, Bluetooth headset
- Compact and Convenient: Refreshed look and compact form factor allows you to leave it in your laptop or PC to save space
- Bluetooth Technology: BT v5.1 Bluetooth low energy technology gives you greater wireless range and faster connection to take calls anywhere
- Compatible with Poly Voyager headsets
Which connection should you use?
| Choose based on | Poly USB adapter | Computer’s built-in Bluetooth |
|---|---|---|
| Poly-specific call and management features | Use it if your headset and computer support the documented adapter workflow and you need its softphone, call-control, or Poly software behavior. | May be sufficient if your headset connects reliably and you do not need adapter-specific functions. |
| Compatibility | Verify the precise headset, adapter variant, USB connector, and operating system. | Verify that the headset supports pairing with the computer’s Bluetooth hardware and that the required functions work. |
| Audio latency | No reviewed source establishes a lower delay. | No reviewed source establishes that it is slower than the BT700. |
| Intermittent audio in a congested radio environment | For the Voyager Focus 2, Poly documents a wired USB troubleshooting option; that is a reliability step, not evidence of lower wireless latency. | Results depend on the setup and environment; the reviewed sources do not provide a general comparison. |
A USB adapter can be the sensible choice when you need Poly’s documented PC integration with a compatible headset. If built-in Bluetooth already works and you do not need those features, the reviewed evidence gives no latency-based reason to switch. A generic Bluetooth dongle should not be assumed to reproduce Poly-specific pairing, call-control, or management behavior.
How to set up the adapter for a supported Poly headset
- Check the hardware. Confirm the headset’s supported adapter, the adapter’s connector (such as USB-A), and your computer’s available port and operating system.
- Connect the adapter. The Voyager Focus 2 guide says its adapter is typically pre-paired. If you are pairing a BT700 with another supported Poly audio device, use Poly Lens Desktop App as directed by the device documentation. HP also specifies Poly Lens Desktop App for pairing a BT700 with a Poly audio device in its Voyager 5200 pairing instructions.
- Set audio routing for media. Where applicable, configure the adapter and select Poly BT700 as the input and output device in the computer or application’s audio settings. Confirm the app is using the intended headset and microphone.
- Test the function you need. Check playback, microphone input, and softphone controls separately. A successful pairing alone does not show that every application is using the adapter or that audio delay has changed.
What to check when audio is late, out of sync, or dropping
First distinguish the symptom. Audio that begins late or drifts out of sync with video is different from call dropouts, incorrect input/output routing, or call controls that do not work. The reviewed Poly and HP documents do not diagnose a BT700 latency defect or establish the adapter as a fix for delay.

- Note the exact headset and adapter model, computer operating system, calling or media app, connection mode, and when the problem occurs.
- Confirm the computer and app are using the intended headset for both output and microphone input.
- If the issue is intermittent call audio on a Voyager Focus 2 and Bluetooth density may be involved, test Poly’s documented corded mode: disconnect the Bluetooth adapter, connect the headset directly to the computer with its USB cable, and power off the headset. Follow the guide for your model. This is a wired troubleshooting option, not a wireless-latency claim.
Bottom line on latency
There is no supported basis in the reviewed Poly/HP documentation to say that the BT700 is faster than built-in Bluetooth. Use it when its compatibility and Poly-specific call or management features meet your needs; do not buy it on the promise of reduced audio delay. A valid latency comparison would need measurements for the exact headset, computer, software, Bluetooth profile or codec, and workload—none is provided in the sources cited here.
