No public source confirms that a new Denuvo version blocks hypervisor bypasses or that the change affects 60-plus games. The claim traces back to a community post from October 8, 2026, which names Star Wars: Galactic Racer. What is documented is a separate set of developments: a lawsuit against an alleged cracker, a report that a well-known cracking group had reportedly disbanded, and Irdeto’s description of what Denuvo is built to do.

The short answer

The headline’s central claim is a speculation, not a finding. A Reddit thread suggested that Star Wars: Galactic Racer uses an updated Denuvo build that stops hypervisor-based bypasses. Neither Irdeto, the company that sells Denuvo Anti-Piracy, nor the game’s publisher has said this in any source we could find. No public test, technical write-up, or statement establishes what changed, how many games use it, or whether it works. Treat the “60+ games” figure as unsupported.

What Denuvo Anti-Piracy is

Denuvo Anti-Piracy is sold to game publishers and developers, not to players. Irdeto describes its video game product on its official product page as a way to delay cracking and protect launch revenue. According to that page, it validates ownership with the distribution platform, issues a hardware-bound token, and allows gameplay only on matching authorized devices. These are the vendor’s own descriptions of the product.

The same page lists four figures: 450+ games protected, 180 average crack-free days, more than $10 billion in estimated revenue, and 3.4 billion+ licenses issued. Irdeto’s page, accessed in 2026, does not give a publication date or explain how these numbers were calculated. Treat them as vendor-reported metrics rather than independently verified results.

Do not confuse this product with Denuvo Anti-Cheat, which is a separate offering aimed at a different problem. The claims discussed here concern anti-piracy and anti-tamper protection in single-player and similar titles.

Where the “60+ games” claim comes from

The number in the headline does not come from a verified count. In reporting from March 31, 2026, TorrentFreak described hypervisor-based bypasses as a newer way to defeat Denuvo checks and noted that Irdeto had promised countermeasures. That article is background. It does not show that a countermeasure has been deployed or that it has worked.

A later lawsuit alleged bypasses on 26 games, which is a different number and a different claim. Neither source shows that a single update blocks all of them, or any of the 60-plus titles named in the headline.

Two ways Denuvo is defeated, as described in reporting

Tom’s Hardware and TorrentFreak distinguish between a hypervisor-based approach and conventional cracks. The table below uses only the points that the reporting describes. Where it does not address a point, the table says so.

Point of comparison Hypervisor-based bypass (as described) Conventional crack (as described)
What is altered The system-level environment the game runs in, which the reporting says spoofs Denuvo checks Denuvo’s checks inside the game itself, patched directly
Whether Windows protections must be lowered Yes, according to Tom’s Hardware (September 28, 2026) Not stated in the reporting reviewed
Whether protection is bypassed or removed Bypassed, according to the reporting Not stated in the reporting reviewed

This comparison is descriptive only. It is not a guide to either method, and the reporting does not establish how widely either approach is used.

The lawsuit against voices38

On September 16, 2026, TorrentFreak reported that Denuvo had sued an anonymous handle, voices38, under the anti-circumvention provisions of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The complaint alleges circumvention on 26 games. Examples it names include Hogwarts Legacy, Black Myth: Wukong, Resident Evil Requiem, and Doom: The Dark Ages.

The complaint calls the defendant “a computer hacker who is focused on reverse engineering, hacking, or ‘cracking’ video games employing Denuvo’s Anti-Tamper product.” These are allegations from a filing. The case was at an early stage when reported, and no court has ruled on them.

The DenuvOwO report

On September 28, 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported that the cracking group DenuvOwO had reportedly disbanded, citing online reports rather than a statement from the group. The same report said other actors continued to release cracks. A reported disbanding does not show that bypasses have stopped.

What would confirm the claim

A verified report on the Galactic Racer update would need to include some of the following:

  • Technical analysis, from an identifiable source, of what the update does and why it affects the hypervisor approach.
  • A list of affected titles, with the method used to confirm each one.
  • Reports from more than one independent source describing the outcome after release.

Until at least one of these exists, the update should be described as a community claim.

How to read future reports

When you see a headline about a new Denuvo countermeasure, check three things: whether the claim cites Irdeto, a publisher, or an identifiable technical analyst; whether the game count is attributed to a source and a date; and whether the article distinguishes a single game from a broader change. Headlines that move from one game to dozens without new evidence usually have skipped one of these steps.

Coverage of this subject is also uneven. Reporting on the lawsuit and the DenuvOwO status is more solid than reporting on any technical change, so it is reasonable to trust the legal and background facts more than any specific claim about what the update blocks.

Finally, there is no consumer product angle here. The only company selling Denuvo is Irdeto, and it sells to developers and publishers.

The verdict: the headline overstates what is known. The claim about a new block is unconfirmed, the 60-plus games figure is unsupported, and the legal and background developments are documented but do not confirm the headline.
