The GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU has 8GB of GDDR7 video memory, according to NVIDIA. A laptop listing that says 16GB usually refers to the computer’s system RAM, not the GPU’s VRAM. Check which memory label a specification describes before comparing models.
How much VRAM does the RTX 5050 Laptop GPU have?
NVIDIA’s June 24, 2025 announcement says: “Additionally, these new laptops include 8GB of GDDR7 video memory (VRAM), running at 24 Gbps.” That identifies the laptop GPU’s VRAM as 8GB GDDR7. NVIDIA’s GeForce News announcement
In a laptop product listing, “RTX 5050” names the graphics processor. Its VRAM is a separate specification from the system memory installed for the processor and operating system.
Why does an RTX 5050 laptop listing say 16GB?
Many laptop specifications display system memory, storage, and graphics details alongside one another. HP Victus examples pair an RTX 5050 listed with 8GB of graphics memory with 16GB of system RAM, while the storage differs between 512GB and 1TB. Acer Nitro listings likewise show RTX 5050 graphics with 8GB GDDR7 alongside varying RAM and SSD combinations.

MSI makes the distinction explicit on its Cyborg 15 B2RWEKG-292US listing: “RTX 5050 Laptop GPU 8G GDDR7” is the graphics memory, while “16GB (8Gx2) DDR5 5600MHz” is system memory. The 16GB figure does not mean that the graphics card has 16GB of VRAM.
Does the desktop RTX 5050 use the same memory?
No. NVIDIA specifies 8GB GDDR6 for the desktop GeForce RTX 5050, while its laptop GPU uses 8GB GDDR7. Both are listed with 8GB capacity, but the memory type differs by implementation. NVIDIA’s RTX 5050 family specifications

How to verify the specification before buying
- Open the exact model or SKU page for the laptop you plan to buy, rather than relying only on a family-level product page or search result.
- Find the GPU specification and confirm it says RTX 5050 Laptop GPU and identifies 8GB GDDR7 as video memory.
- Read the memory section separately. A 16GB DDR5 or similar figure describes system RAM when it is labeled as such.
- Check the same SKU’s GPU power limit, CPU, display, storage, upgradeability, and regional warranty; configurations can differ across models and markets.
- Confirm the retailer’s selected configuration matches the manufacturer’s specification before checkout, especially if the listing groups several variants on one page.
