Short answer: NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 2060 is listed among GPUs covered by driver 526.98’s support for the HDR10+ Gaming standard. That does not mean Windows, a streaming service, or a movie player will show an HDR10+ playback option. Movie HDR depends on the title, app, display, connection chain and device settings. NVIDIA’s separate RTX Video HDR feature can convert SDR browser video to HDR on a compatible display, but it is not native HDR10+ movie playback.
HDR10+ Gaming is not the same as HDR10+ movies
NVIDIA’s GeForce Game Ready Driver 526.98 release notes say it “Introduces support for HDR10+ GAMING standard” and include the GeForce RTX 2060 in the supported GeForce RTX 20 Series family. This establishes a gaming feature, not a universal movie-playback switch.

Native HDR10+ movie playback requires cooperation between the video title, streaming or disc application, operating system, GPU output, cable, receiver or adapter, TV input and display mode. A player may offer HDR10, Dolby Vision or no HDR option even when the graphics card itself is capable of sending an HDR signal.

Native HDR supplied by an app or service
If a supported service or player supplies a movie in HDR, the application and display chain determine whether that HDR format is delivered. The RTX 2060 alone does not add an HDR10+ menu to every service, browser or movie file.
#1 Best Overall
- Enhanced Performance: The RTX 2060 Super delivers exceptional gaming performance with 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a boost clock speed of up to 1650 MHz. It efficiently handles modern gaming titles at high settings, making it ideal for gamers seeking an immersive experience.
- Real-Time Ray Tracing: Equipped with Turing architecture, the RTX 2060 Super supports real-time ray tracing technology. This feature allows for realistic lighting, shadows, and reflections, enhancing visual fidelity in supported games and applications.
- VR Ready: The RTX 2060 Super is optimized for virtual reality (VR) experiences, providing low-latency and high-performance rendering. Gamers can enjoy an immersive VR environment with smooth graphics and responsive gameplay.
- DLSS Support: The graphics card supports Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), which utilizes AI rendering to produce sharp images and increase frame rates without compromising quality. This technology ensures smoother gameplay, particularly at higher resolutions.
- Multiple Display Outputs**: With support for up to three displays, the RTX 2060 Super offers versatile connectivity options. It includes DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0b outputs, enabling multi-monitor setups for enhanced productivity or gaming immersion.
NVIDIA RTX Video HDR
NVIDIA describes RTX Video HDR as an enhancement that converts standard-dynamic-range (SDR) video to HDR in supported browsers. It requires an RTX GPU connected to an HDR10-compatible monitor or TV. Converted video is not the same as a movie mastered and delivered with HDR10+ dynamic metadata.
Check these settings in order
- Confirm the display. Check the TV or monitor specifications and make sure the connected input supports HDR. For RTX Video HDR, NVIDIA specifically requires an HDR10-compatible display.
- Connect to the NVIDIA GPU. Make sure the HDMI or DisplayPort cable is plugged into the RTX 2060 rather than a motherboard video output. If your setup uses HDMI, the card’s user guide documents sending digital video and audio to an HDTV over HDMI.
- Enable Windows HDR. In Windows, open Settings > System > Display > HDR, select the connected display and turn on HDR. The exact labels can vary slightly by Windows version.
- Check NVIDIA video enhancement. In NVIDIA Control Panel, look under Adjust video image settings > RTX Video Enhancement and enable the HDR option if it is available. Menu names can change with driver and software versions.
- Use supported playback software. RTX Video HDR is intended for SDR video in supported browsers. It is not a switch that forces every streaming app, protected movie service or local player to expose HDR10+.
- Verify the content and plan. The specific movie must be supplied in HDR by the service or file, and your subscription or playback tier may affect availability. Check the title’s format information inside the service.
- Inspect the entire signal path. A receiver, splitter, adapter, cable, TV input setting or Windows multi-display configuration can prevent HDR even when the GPU and TV support it.
Which behavior should you expect?
| Path | Content type | What the RTX 2060 evidence establishes | What else is required |
|---|---|---|---|
| HDR10+ Gaming | Games using the standard | Driver 526.98 announces support and lists the RTX 20 Series, including RTX 2060. | A compatible game, display and complete output chain. |
| Native HDR movie playback | Movie delivered in HDR by an app or service | No cited NVIDIA statement guarantees an HDR10+ movie option. | Supported title, app, subscription, display, connection and copy-protection path. |
| RTX Video HDR | SDR video converted to HDR | NVIDIA describes support on RTX GPUs, including the RTX 2060 class. | Supported browser, Windows HDR, the NVIDIA enhancement setting and an HDR10-compatible display. |
Why the HDR option may be missing
- The monitor or TV, or the selected input, may not support HDR.
- Windows HDR may be disabled for that display.
- The player may not support HDR10+ or may hide HDR controls for protected content.
- The movie may be available only in SDR, or your service tier may not include its HDR version.
- The signal may pass through a receiver, adapter, splitter or cable that does not carry the required mode.
- The display may be connected to a different GPU output or configured as a non-HDR secondary screen.
What to do if you are specifically seeking HDR10+ movies
First establish that the TV and the chosen app support HDR10+ for the title. Then enable Windows HDR and confirm that the app reports HDR playback while the movie is running. If the app offers only an SDR stream, RTX Video HDR may improve it by converting SDR to HDR in a supported browser, but it cannot create the original HDR10+ metadata or make an unsupported service add an HDR10+ option.
Buying an HDMI cable is sensible only when your ports, cable and display specifications indicate that the existing connection is the limitation. A cable does not add HDR10+ support to a GPU, television or movie service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every RTX 2060 support HDR10+ movies?
No. NVIDIA’s cited driver note concerns HDR10+ Gaming. Movie playback still depends on the app, title, display and complete connection chain.
Can RTX Video HDR turn any movie into HDR10+?
No. It converts SDR video to HDR in supported browsers; it is not native HDR10+ playback and does not add HDR10+ metadata.
The Bottom Line
The RTX 2060 has documented HDR10+ Gaming support, but that is not a guarantee of an HDR10+ movie option. Enable Windows HDR, verify the TV and connection, check the app and title, and treat RTX Video HDR as an SDR-to-HDR enhancement rather than native HDR10+ playback.
