Squad supports limited PS5–PC cross-play, but it does not support cross-progression. A PS5 player can join a PC friend only when that friend is playing on an eligible community-hosted server configured with Squad’s console ruleset and cross-play is enabled. This is not unrestricted matchmaking across the entire PC server list. Your PC progress, purchases, downloadable content and cosmetics also remain separate from your PlayStation version.
Squad’s PlayStation 5 version was announced on October 16, 2026. The full console launch date has not been announced. A free PS5 alpha preview was scheduled for October 16–25, 2026, so availability during that period is preview access rather than confirmation of the final release.
What cross-play means in Squad
Squad’s console cross-play is an opt-in server feature, not a universal cross-platform matchmaking pool. The game’s planned console release covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. For PS5 players, the practical distinction is between eligible servers and the much larger PC server ecosystem.

PC players will be able to create community-hosted servers that use the console ruleset. Those servers are the bridge between PS5 and PC. A PC player must opt in through a separate section of the PC server browser, while a console player with cross-play enabled can see and join eligible PC community servers that are marked for the console ruleset.

Because both sides must use the appropriate settings, simply owning Squad on PC and searching the normal PC browser will not guarantee that a PS5 friend can join. The server itself has to be configured for console play, and the PC player has to select the cross-play-capable area of the browser.
Official console servers also support console cross-play
PlayStation and Xbox players can use opt-in cross-play on official console servers. That is separate from the PS5-to-PC route: the PC connection relies on eligible community-hosted servers, whereas console players can meet one another on the official console infrastructure when they opt in.
How to play with a PC friend from PS5
Once the console version is available to you, use this process. The exact wording of menu labels can change between the alpha and final release, but the required conditions are defined by the console FAQ.

- Enable cross-play on the PS5. Cross-play must be turned on for the console player to see eligible PC community servers.
- Have the PC player open the separate cross-play or console-server section. PC players must opt in through a distinct section of the PC server browser rather than relying on the ordinary PC server list.
- Choose a community-hosted server using the console ruleset. The server must be one of the PC-hosted servers configured for console play. A standard PC server without that ruleset is not a supported PS5 destination.
- Join the same server and coordinate your squad. The PS5 player should be able to see eligible servers while cross-play is enabled; the PC player can share the server choice so both enter the same match.
If the server does not appear, check the three conditions in order: console cross-play is enabled, the PC player is browsing the separate console-server section, and the host has selected the console ruleset. Changing only one player’s setting will not convert an ordinary PC server into a cross-play server.

Is Squad cross-play unrestricted?
No. The restriction is important for expectations about queue times, server choice and the friends list. PS5 players do not gain access to every PC community server, every PC modded server or the full PC server browser. They can access the subset of PC community-hosted servers that are configured for the console ruleset and exposed through the cross-play path.
What this means for finding a match
- Server availability can vary. Cross-play depends on PC hosts choosing to run the console ruleset, so the number of eligible servers may be smaller than the general PC population.
- Server rules matter. A server that is full, offline or running a PC-only configuration will not be a useful meeting point for PS5 and PC players.
- Cross-play is opt-in. Players who do not enable it will not be placed into the same cross-play pool through the supported process.
- Platform parity is not implied. Being in the same match does not mean the PS5 version has every PC feature, mod or server option.
Does Squad have cross-progression?
No. Offworld Industries’ console FAQ gives the direct answer: “Will there be cross-progression? No.” Progress earned on PC does not transfer to PS5, and progress earned on PS5 does not transfer back to PC.
Can you use a PC Squad account on PS5?
There is no supported cross-platform progression system that carries your PC profile into the PS5 version. In practical terms, you should treat the two platforms as separate progression environments. The announcement does not describe a shared account inventory, synchronized statistics or a migration process.

No cross-progression is supported, so platform-specific progress should not be expected to move between versions. If you switch from PC to PS5, plan to use the PS5 profile and progression available there rather than relying on your PC history.

Do purchases, DLC and cosmetics transfer?
They do not. The FAQ states that purchases are handled separately by each platform, DLC purchases are platform-specific, and cosmetics will not carry across platforms.

This separation means a PC owner who also wants to play on PS5 should budget for the console copy and any platform-specific add-ons separately. Cross-play changes where you can play together; it does not merge store entitlements or inventories.
PS5 versus PC: feature and access differences
The following comparison separates confirmed differences from features that are shared only under the cross-play conditions.

Mods and server rules are the biggest PC-side limitations
PC players often choose servers for custom maps, rules and modifications. That flexibility does not automatically carry into the PS5 experience. The FAQ says console mods will not be available at launch, while PC modding remains supported.

What a PC player should do when inviting a PS5 friend
- Select a server configured for the console ruleset, not a PC-only modded setup.
- Use the dedicated section of the PC server browser intended for cross-play or console-compatible community servers.
- Check that the server’s current configuration is still console-compatible before sending the server details to the PS5 player.
- Expect fewer customization options than on a typical PC-only server because console mods are unavailable at launch.
What a PS5 player should not assume
- A PC friend’s favorite modded server will necessarily be joinable from PS5.
- Every PC map, ruleset or custom asset will be present on console.
- Cross-play access means the PS5 version can browse the complete PC server list.
Communication and equipment for mixed-platform squads
Squad is designed around coordinated teamwork. Offworld Industries says a microphone is not technically required to launch the game, but communication with your squad materially improves the experience. That applies particularly to a mixed PS5–PC group, where players need to coordinate server choice, roles and movement despite using different control setups.
A headset with a working microphone is therefore practical equipment rather than a requirement for account access. Before joining a match, verify that the console or PC detects the microphone and that squad, local and command communication channels are audible. The FAQ identifies those communication layers as core to the intended experience, but it does not require a specific headset model.

The announced console plan targets PvP matches of up to 100 players. It also identifies Fireteam, a PvE mode planned for five players. These are planned console figures, not a guarantee that every server or mode will always be full at launch.

Troubleshooting PS5–PC connection problems
The PS5 player cannot see the PC server
- Confirm cross-play is enabled on the PS5.
- Ask the PC player to leave the ordinary PC browser and open the separate section for console-compatible or cross-play community servers.
- Verify that the host is using the console ruleset.
- Check that the server is online and has room for both players.
The PC player can see the server but the PS5 player cannot join
The most likely explanation is a ruleset mismatch or a server that is not actually exposed to console players. Try another community-hosted server explicitly configured for the console ruleset. A PC-only mod, map or configuration can also make a server unsuitable for the PS5 client, especially because console mods are not available at launch.
One player expects purchases or cosmetics to appear on the other platform
That behavior is not supported. Platform purchases, DLC and cosmetics remain separate, so reinstalling the game or linking the same console and PC ecosystems will not create a shared inventory.
What to know before buying Squad on another platform
- Buying the PC version does not grant the PS5 version.
- Plan for separate platform purchases and platform-specific DLC.
- Do not buy the console version expecting your PC progression or cosmetics to follow you.
- Choose PS5 if you primarily want console controls and access to the planned console ecosystem; choose PC if unrestricted access to the broader PC server and mod scene is more important.
- If your priority is playing with a PC friend from PS5, confirm that the friend is willing to use an eligible console-ruleset community server.
Bottom line for PS5 and PC players
Squad is not fully cross-platform in the unrestricted sense. PS5 and PC players can play together, but only through opt-in, eligible PC community-hosted servers running the console ruleset. The PS5 version’s full launch date remains unannounced, and the October 16–25, 2026 alpha preview is temporary preview access. Cross-progression is not supported: PC and PS5 progress, ownership, DLC and cosmetics stay separate. For a mixed-platform squad, the decisive steps are enabling cross-play on PS5, using the dedicated PC server-browser section and choosing a console-ruleset server.
