Most newer Samsung Galaxy phones do not have built-in ANT+. Samsung said ANT+ support was removed beginning with the 2020 Galaxy Note20 generation. A USB ANT+ dongle is a possible Android workaround, but Samsung does not officially support that route—and there is no confirmation that it will let ANT+ accessories connect to Samsung Health.
Which Samsung Galaxy phones have built-in ANT+?
In a Samsung Members reply dated October 11, 2022, a Samsung ANT+ representative said ANT+ was removed starting with the 2020 Galaxy Note20 and that Galaxy phones released afterward do not support it. That is Samsung’s stated generation cutoff, not a model-by-model compatibility test. Samsung’s response
Do not assume every earlier Galaxy model or regional variant has ANT+. Check the exact model’s specifications or Samsung documentation. For example, a Samsung Knox inventory for the Galaxy Note10 LTE (N970U1) lists ANT Radio Service, which is useful legacy-device context but does not establish built-in ANT+ support for every Note10 variant. It is not confirmed. Samsung’s support reply says the company cannot guarantee operation across USB ANT+ dongles because it does not officially support that accessory path. It does not confirm that Samsung Health can use an external dongle to pair with ANT+ sensors. A sensor being ANT+-compatible, or Android recognizing a USB stick, does not by itself establish that Samsung Health supports the connection.

ANT documents a USB-stick setup for Android devices with USB Host support, but describes requirements for the Android connection path—not Samsung Health compatibility on a particular Galaxy phone. ANT guidance for phones and tablets
What a USB ANT+ workaround requires
Before buying anything, check that every part of the connection chain is supported. ANT’s Android USB route involves the phone, USB stick, required services, and an application that supports ANT over USB.

- Confirm USB Host support. The phone must be able to act as a USB host. ANT notes that eligibility for its USB Service in Google Play can indicate USB Host support, but check the exact phone and setup rather than treating that indicator as a guarantee.
- Choose a compatible ANT USB stick. ANT’s USB Service listing says USB1 sticks are incompatible with the newer service. A stick’s ANT+ branding alone does not establish that it works with this Android route. ANT USB Service listing on Google Play
- Check the physical connection. The phone may need a USB OTG adapter, depending on its port and the stick’s connector.
- Install the required software. ANT lists ANT USB Service, ANT Radio Service, and ANT+ Plugins as components used by its Android setup. Their presence does not guarantee that a particular fitness app can use an external USB stick.
- Verify the target app’s transport support. Confirm that the fitness application explicitly supports ANT through USB. ANT notes that some older apps require built-in ANT and cannot use USB-attached ANT.
What to check before spending money
- Identify the exact Galaxy model and verify its USB Host/OTG capability.
- Ask the stick manufacturer whether its specific model works with the current ANT USB Service and your phone.
- Check the fitness app’s current documentation for external USB ANT support—not just general ANT+ sensor support.
- For Samsung Health, look for confirmation covering the exact phone and dongle setup. Samsung’s cited reply does not provide it.
ANT+ is used by accessories such as heart-rate straps, running foot pods, cycling power meters, scales, and blood-pressure monitors. If Bluetooth connections keep dropping
A dongle is not a verified Samsung Health fix for unreliable Bluetooth. If your sensor supports both Bluetooth and ANT+, Bluetooth may remain an option with an app that supports the sensor, but the sources cited here do not establish that any particular replacement sensor will solve dropouts. Check whether the sensor and the app you intend to use support the same connection method before changing hardware.
