Partly. RemoveMe, made by iolo, finds your listings on data-broker and people-search sites, submits opt-out and removal requests, and rechecks for records that reappear. What it cannot promise is that a broker will never list you again. Each site decides whether to honor a request, and brokers can collect your information anew after you have opted out.
What RemoveMe says it does
The RemoveMe FAQ and iolo’s product pages describe the same three-stage workflow, with regular reporting to the subscriber.
1. Discovery
The service scans broker and people-search sites for listings that match you. Discovery is the step that determines what gets removed, so a missed site means a listing the service never touches.
2. Removal
For each listing it finds, RemoveMe submits an opt-out or removal request. The company says it handles each site’s process for you. In its FAQ, RemoveMe puts it this way: “Each site has its own process — we handle all of it automatically, and then monitor to ensure the data stays removed.”

3. Monitoring
After a removal, the service rescans to see whether the record returns. If it does, the company says it submits a new request. This is the feature that separates a one-time opt-out from an ongoing service, and it is the part that determines how long your information stays off a site.
The company says it looks for several categories of personal information: names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, age, relatives, court records, date of birth, photos, social handles, property values, and occupation details. These are the provider’s own descriptions. No independent audit of covered records or data types was located.
How many broker sites does RemoveMe cover?
The official pages disagree, and the difference matters if you are comparing services.

These numbers may reflect different page versions, different definitions, or different plan tiers. “Covered” can mean a site is scanned, that a removal request can be filed, or that the site is included in a particular subscription. The sources do not show which definition applies to each figure, so neither number should be treated as a verified total.
Ask RemoveMe for the current list of supported sites under the plan you intend to buy. Coverage lists change over time. DuckDuckGo’s own removal documentation notes that its list changes when a broker goes offline, changes its opt-out process, or stops responding, and the same logic applies to any paid service.
How long removal takes
These timing figures come from the company, not from independent testing of RemoveMe:

Even after a site accepts a request, the record can stay visible for a while. iolo’s FAQ explains the gap: “There can be a delay between when we receive removal confirmation and when the information actually disappears from search results due to caching, different database systems, or the site’s update schedule.” Check search results again after the company’s stated window before concluding that a removal has failed.
Will data brokers put your information back?
They can, and RemoveMe does not claim otherwise. Its position is that monitoring catches reappearances and re-submits requests. Several limits remain:
- Copies persist. A record can be marked removed on one site while copies stay in search caches, other databases, or duplicate profiles.
- Brokers reacquire data. A broker that received your information once can collect it again from public records or other sources after an opt-out.
- Brokers control the outcome. A site can miss a record, ignore a request, or change its opt-out process.
DeleteMe, a competing service, states this dependency directly in its terms: it cannot guarantee that a broker removes or permanently suppresses information. That disclosure concerns DeleteMe, not RemoveMe, but it describes the structure every service in this category shares.

What independent testing shows
The most relevant independent evidence is a 2025 empirical study by Jiahui He, Pete Snyder, Hamed Haddadi, Fabián E. Bustamante, and Gareth Tyson. It examined four commercial personally identifiable information (PII) removal services. The abstract does not name RemoveMe among them, so the findings should not be attributed to RemoveMe. Two category-level figures from the study are useful for setting expectations:
- 48.2% of found records were successfully removed. The abstract describes the tested services as unable to remove the majority of PII records they identified. Read the paper for its exact wording and denominator before quoting the figure.
- 41.1% of identified records were judged by participants to be their own PII. This is a participant assessment of records the services found, not a universal error rate for every provider.
These results do not predict what happens to any individual subscriber. What they do show is why a broker count or a “removed” status should not be read as proof that your exposure has dropped to zero.

RemoveMe says it is optimized for US residents and focuses on US data brokers and people-search sites. Its FAQ states: “The service is optimized for US residents, though we continue to expand our coverage.” Do not assume worldwide coverage.

California residents have a public alternative. AP reported that the state’s Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) lets residents submit one deletion request covering more than 500 data brokers, after setting up an account and verifying their identity. Check the official state DROP page for current steps, because government processes change and the AP report is a dated account.
Checklist before you sign up
- Get the plan-specific site list. Ask which exact brokers are scanned and eligible for removal under the plan you are buying, not only the headline count.
- Confirm what gets submitted. Find out which data types are included and whether removals are automated, handled by staff, or both, and what “verified” means in the company’s reports.
- Check reporting. Make sure you can see each record, the site it came from, the request status, and the follow-up history.
- Ask how monitoring works. Find out how often sites are rescanned and what happens when a listing returns or a broker changes its opt-out flow.
- Confirm eligibility. If you live outside the US, check whether the relevant sites are covered before paying.
- Review privacy terms. Look for clear retention and security terms, and note what personal data the service itself needs to process to find your listings.
- Verify price and renewal terms. Pricing changes often. Confirm the current price, renewal terms, and cancellation process at checkout, because this article does not list a price.
Bottom line on the company’s claims
RemoveMe’s process is clear: find listings, request removal, and rescan for returns. The claims about how many sites it covers, how fast removals happen, and how long records stay off are the company’s own, and the official figures conflict. Treat the service as ongoing monitoring and removal assistance, not as a guarantee that your information stays off every broker permanently.
