The current answer: there is no Xbox version to play locally
The Xbox part of the question comes first. R.E.P.O. is currently documented as a Windows PC game distributed through Steam, not as an Xbox title. Because no Xbox SKU has been announced, you cannot install an Xbox edition, invite another person to the same Xbox, or use an Xbox split-screen setting for this game.
This is different from a game that has an Xbox release but omits local multiplayer. In R.E.P.O.’s case, the platform itself is not currently available. What the released PC version actually supports
The official Steam listing identifies semiwork as both developer and publisher. It gives the release date as February 26, 2025 and labels the game Early Access. Its listed modes are Single-player and Online Co-op.
Online co-op supports up to six players: one host and up to five friends. That is an online player limit for the Windows PC version, not a statement about six people sharing one screen, one computer, one console, or one copy of an Xbox game.
The Steam support information lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 system requirements and repeats the same feature set. It also lists Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. Those entries describe Steam functionality; they do not add local co-op, split-screen, or Xbox compatibility.

Split-screen
Split-screen means multiple players use the same display while the game divides the screen into separate views. A game must include a dedicated split-screen mode and a way to add the second player. R.E.P.O.’s documented Steam feature list does not include split-screen.
Local or couch co-op
Local co-op, also called couch co-op, lets players share a physical location and usually the same console or computer. It can use one screen, a shared screen without visible divisions, or split-screen. The important requirement is that the game supports simultaneous local players. Current documentation does not list that mode for R.E.P.O.
Online co-op
Online co-op connects players over the internet, normally with each participant on a separate device. R.E.P.O.’s documented multiplayer mode is this online model, with a maximum party size of six on PC. Online co-op should not be read as evidence of local multiplayer or console support.

The table separates a confirmed PC feature from an unannounced console feature. “Not stated” does not mean a feature has been promised or ruled out; it means there is no established Xbox specification to rely on.

What Semiwork has said about a console version
Semiwork has discussed console support as a future possibility rather than a current product. In a developer announcement, a question about whether R.E.P.O. will ever come to console was followed by this qualification: “That is the current plan, but we won’t fully dig into it until we are on the homestretch and working on the 1.0 update.”
That statement indicates an intention to address consoles later in development, near the 1.0 update. It does not identify Xbox as a confirmed platform, provide a launch window, promise local multiplayer, or specify cross-play. A plan to investigate or discuss console support is therefore not the same as an Xbox announcement.
Early Access status also matters. Features, platforms and technical priorities can change before a 1.0 release, but no change should be assumed until Semiwork publishes the relevant platform and feature details.

Two people with one Xbox
There is no supported setup. R.E.P.O. has no documented Xbox edition, so connecting two controllers to one Xbox cannot create a local game mode that the platform does not provide.

Two people on one television with separate PCs
A television can be used as a display for PCs, but that does not turn the game into split-screen. The documented PC mode remains online co-op, and each player would be participating through the online PC version rather than through an Xbox local-play feature.
One Xbox player joining PC friends
This cannot currently be confirmed because there is no Xbox version and cross-play support is not stated. Do not assume that a future console edition will connect to Steam players unless Semiwork explicitly documents cross-platform multiplayer.
A group of friends playing together online
The supported arrangement documented today is the Windows PC version’s online co-op mode. The maximum named group size is six players, consisting of one host and up to five friends. That number describes an online party, not a local party on one screen.

The Steam listing includes single-player as well as online co-op. Single-player is therefore the documented option when you are not using the online multiplayer mode. No local multiplayer alternative is listed.

Why a controller or console accessory cannot add couch co-op
Extra controllers, an Xbox headset, a multiplayer subscription, or a different television can make supported console multiplayer more convenient, but they cannot add a game mode that the software and platform do not provide. The limitation here is not the number of input devices; it is the absence of an Xbox release and the absence of documented local multiplayer.
Buying hardware specifically for R.E.P.O. couch co-op is therefore premature. Until an Xbox edition is announced with its own feature list, an accessory cannot establish compatibility, split-screen rendering, local player profiles, or an Xbox matchmaking path.
How to check whether the answer changes
If Semiwork announces a console port, look for specific information rather than relying on a store thumbnail, a rumor, or a general statement that consoles are planned.

- Confirm the platform listing. Check whether the announcement names Xbox and identifies the supported Xbox generation or service.
- Check the release status. Distinguish a confirmed release date, a target window, an announced port, and a general development plan.
- Read the multiplayer feature list. Look specifically for local co-op, couch co-op, split-screen, or “shared screen.” Online co-op alone does not answer the local-play question.
- Verify the player limit. Confirm whether a stated maximum applies online, locally, or both. The existing six-player figure is explicitly the PC online-co-op limit.
- Look for cross-play details. If Xbox and PC players are meant to play together, the announcement should state which platforms can share a session and whether cross-play is available at launch.
- Check the final edition or patch notes. A feature mentioned as planned may not ship in the first console build. The Xbox store description and launch documentation should be treated as the authoritative feature list for that edition.
What is confirmed and what remains unknown
Several facts are firm for the currently released version: R.E.P.O. is a Windows PC game on Steam; its release date is February 26, 2025; it is in Early Access; it supports single-player and online co-op; and the online party limit is up to six players. Windows 10 and Windows 11 are the listed operating systems.
Several Xbox-specific details remain unknown rather than quietly implied. There is no confirmed Xbox SKU, no Xbox launch date, no Xbox price or edition information, no announced local-player count, no split-screen specification, and no confirmed cross-play policy. The absence of these details is why a future console plan cannot be presented as current Xbox support.
Bottom line for Xbox players
R.E.P.O. does not currently support split-screen or local couch co-op on Xbox because no Xbox version has been documented. The playable release described by the official materials is the Windows PC Steam version, whose multiplayer is online co-op for up to six players. Semiwork has indicated that console support is part of its longer-term plan near the 1.0 stage, but Xbox availability and Xbox multiplayer features still require an explicit announcement.
