NordVPN can make your connection appear to come from the United States, but that does not guarantee Netflix will show or keep the US catalog. Netflix may limit VPN users to titles available worldwide, and it does not support VPNs for live events or its ad-supported experience. If you want to try, connect to a US server and follow the troubleshooting steps below; if Netflix reports a VPN or proxy, Netflix’s own advice is to turn the VPN off.
Does NordVPN work with Netflix US?
It may work in some circumstances, but access is variable and neither service promises that NordVPN will unlock or maintain Netflix’s US catalog. NordVPN publishes troubleshooting guidance for Netflix errors and playback failures, while Netflix says VPN use may limit the titles shown to those available worldwide. Netflix catalogs vary by country. Connecting through a US server does not change the country associated with your Netflix account; Netflix says that country changes only when you move. A VPN can affect the apparent location of the connection, not the underlying account country. See Netflix’s explanation of country catalogs and account country.

What to check before trying a US connection
- Plan and feature: Netflix says VPNs are unsupported for live events and for its ad-supported experience. Do not expect a VPN connection to work for those uses.
- Viewing goal: If you want titles available in your current region, Netflix advises turning off the VPN when it causes a regional or VPN warning.
- Device: NordVPN’s setup guide covers Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, Android TV, iOS, tvOS, and browser extensions. It also lists Fire TV; router setup is an option if a device is unsupported or more than ten devices are involved. These are installation options, not a requirement to buy new hardware. How to connect NordVPN to a US server
NordVPN’s general setup requires an active subscription and a device ready for installation. Exact menus depend on the operating system, so use the provider’s device-specific instructions rather than looking for one universal button sequence.

- Download and install the NordVPN app for your device using NordVPN’s start guide.
- Open the app and sign in with your Nord Account credentials.
- Choose the United States in the app to connect to a US server.
- Open Netflix and check whether the titles and features you need are available. A successful VPN connection does not guarantee access to the US catalog.
What to do if Netflix detects the VPN
Try these checks in order. None guarantees access; they address connection, app, or region-display issues identified in NordVPN’s troubleshooting guidance.
- Verify the VPN connection. Check that the NordVPN app reports a successful connection. NordVPN also recommends its DNS leak test as a connection check.
- Try another server in the United States. Close Netflix, connect to a different NordVPN server in the same country, then reopen Netflix.
- Check region display on the profile. If the displayed region appears wrong, NordVPN suggests connecting to the desired server and creating a new Netflix profile to prompt a region update. NordVPN cautions that frequent region switching on one profile can lock the visible region. Treat this as the provider’s suggested troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix.
- Check DNS and web-protection settings. DNS over HTTPS, also called Secure DNS in some browsers, or third-party web-protection services may interfere. NordVPN suggests testing without certain protection features.
- Use the device-specific app fix. NordVPN says iOS users may need to reinstall Netflix rather than clear its cache. For Android, its guide provides cache-clearing steps. Follow the instructions for your device in NordVPN’s Netflix troubleshooting guide.
- Follow Netflix’s advice if the warning persists. Netflix says a VPN or proxy can trigger a warning or regional issue and advises turning it off if problems continue. Its fast.com guidance can help check the apparent country of the connection.
Should you leave the VPN on or turn it off?

Legal and service-term considerations
NordVPN says using its service to bypass regulatory or judicial measures, or for illegal activities, violates its terms, and advises users to follow applicable laws and service terms. That is not a universal legal conclusion about every jurisdiction or use; check the rules that apply where you are.
