Some ASUS computers have built-in microphones, but the answer for yours depends on its exact model and configuration. Check the matching ASUS specifications or manual rather than relying on the ASUS brand or a broad product-family name.
How do I check whether my ASUS computer has a built-in mic?
- Find the full model identifier. Check the label on the computer or its original documentation. Use the complete model name or number, not just a family name such as Vivobook.
- Open the matching ASUS product specifications or manual. Confirm that the documentation matches your model and, where relevant, your region or configuration.
- Look under Audio. A listing such as “Built-in array microphone” indicates that the documented configuration includes microphone hardware. Check the manual for model-specific details.
ASUS warns that specifications and features can vary by model, and its commercial product guide notes that specifications may differ by country and some products may not be available in every market. A close match in name is not enough to confirm your computer’s configuration. ASUS Vivobook 17 X712 specifications and ASUS Vivobook 15 X1504 specifications are examples of model-specific pages that list a built-in array microphone.
What does an ASUS microphone specification tell me?
It tells you that the documented configuration includes microphone hardware; it does not guarantee that the microphone is currently enabled, unmuted, or working. Nor does it establish that every computer in the same broad product family has the same feature.

For example, the Vivobook 15 X1504 specifications also list a 3.5 mm combo audio jack, while the Vivobook 17 X712 page lists a 720p HD camera. The camera entry alone is not proof of a microphone; look for an explicit microphone listing in the exact model’s Audio specifications.

What if the specifications list a microphone but it is not working?
First check whether the microphone is muted or switched off. ASUS documentation for the B1403CTA and B1503CTA describes a microphone-off indicator; on those applicable models, check the indicator and follow the model’s manual. That indicator is not established as a feature on every ASUS computer. ASUS documentation for B1403CTA/B1503CTA describes array microphones with echo cancellation, noise suppression, and beam forming, but those details apply to the documented models only.
If the microphone is not muted, consult the manual and the support information for your exact model to diagnose the device. A specification listing confirms the documented hardware, not that it is functioning in a particular setup.

What if my ASUS computer has no usable built-in microphone?
An external microphone is an option if your exact model lacks a usable built-in one. Before choosing an accessory, check its connection requirements against the ports available on your computer. A model specification may list a port, such as a 3.5 mm combo audio jack, but that alone does not verify compatibility with a particular microphone. ASUS’s model-specific specifications can help identify the ports on the computer. Vivobook 15 X1504 specifications are one example.
