Short answer: Google’s reviewed documentation does not document a Google Search AI Overview creating an event directly in Outlook or Apple Calendar. AI Overviews are documented as search responses with supporting links and follow-up conversations, not as a calendar-writing command. Google documents calendar creation separately in Gemini Apps, while Outlook and Apple Calendar interoperability is handled through their own calendar settings and transfer tools.
That distinction matters because an Overview, Gemini Apps, Gemini in Gmail, and Google Calendar are different products. A feature advertised for one is not evidence that the others can write to the same calendar. Availability can also vary by account, country, experiment, or later rollout, so “not documented” is more accurate than an absolute claim that no account could ever show such a test.
What Google AI Overviews are documented to do
Google describes AI Overviews as generated responses that help you explore a search topic and visit supporting websites. Google later described follow-up questions from an Overview that can lead into AI Mode. Neither product announcement describes an action that creates a calendar event or chooses a destination calendar.

Those announcements do not rule out an undocumented experiment or a later change. They do establish that direct event creation is not part of the publicly described AI Overview workflow in the reviewed material.
Why Gemini Apps creates confusion
Google has a separate, documented calendar workflow in Gemini Apps. Google’s Gemini help says Gemini can create, find, and edit events in Google Calendar and in several named calendar apps: HONOR Calendar, OPPO Calendar, Samsung Calendar, TECNO Calendar, and Xiaomi Calendar. The help page is about Gemini Apps, not the Search page that displays an AI Overview. The supported calendar connections are also not available in Gemini in Google Messages.
For Google Calendar, the help instructions require the user to be signed in, to have Keep Activity turned on, and to connect Google Workspace. Google gives this example instruction: Add this to my calendar or @Google Calendar add this event. That wording is an instruction for Gemini Apps. Typing the same words after reading a Search Overview does not turn the Overview into a documented calendar integration.

Gemini’s calendar capability has boundaries. Google says Gemini Apps cannot add or invite people to events, and cannot add or update some details on an existing event, including certain location or description changes. The help page directs users to edit event details in their calendar app when Gemini cannot perform the change. These limits matter even when the Gemini workflow is available; they do not expand the capabilities of AI Overviews.
Gemini in Gmail is another separate workflow
Google Workspace describes a Gmail “Add to Calendar” button that can appear when Gemini detects event details in an email. That button starts in Gmail and acts on information in the message. It is not evidence that a Search AI Overview can add an event, and it does not document a route into Outlook or Apple Calendar from an Overview. The Gmail description is available on Google Workspace’s calendar product page.

How to use the documented Gemini calendar workflow
If your goal is simply to turn a natural-language request into a calendar event, use Gemini Apps rather than expecting an AI Overview to perform the write. The exact controls can change as Google updates Gemini, but the documented prerequisites and prompt wording are clear.
- Open Gemini Apps. Use the Gemini app or web experience associated with the Google account you intend to use. Do not start from a Search result’s Overview if you need a documented calendar action.
- Sign in to the correct account. Google’s help requires you to be signed in. If you have multiple Google accounts, verify which one is active before connecting a calendar.
- Turn on Keep Activity. The Gemini calendar help lists Keep Activity as a requirement for Google Calendar use. If it is disabled, the calendar connection may not be available.
- Connect Google Workspace. Google says Google Calendar use requires connecting Google Workspace. Complete that connection in Gemini’s account or connected-app settings before asking it to create an event.
- State the event and the action explicitly. A documented example is
Add this to my calendar. You can also use@Google Calendar add this event, followed by the title, date, time, time zone, location, and any other details you want Gemini to interpret. - Check the result in the calendar app. Confirm the date, time zone, recurrence, location, and account before treating the event as final. If a detail is missing or wrong, edit it in the calendar app, which is the documented fallback for changes Gemini cannot make.
This workflow does not promise that an event will appear in Outlook or Apple Calendar. It creates or edits an event in the connected, supported calendar environment. Moving that event elsewhere requires the destination provider’s own interoperability features.
What the Outlook documentation actually supports
Exporting Outlook data to Google Calendar
Microsoft documents a route from Outlook to Google Calendar: export an Outlook calendar to an iCalendar file, then import that file into Google Calendar. The procedure is a file transfer, not a command issued by Search. Microsoft explicitly describes the exported copy as a snapshot. If an appointment is later changed in Outlook, the imported copy in Google Calendar does not automatically update.
Use this route when a one-time transfer is acceptable. Treat the imported calendar as a separate copy and decide which service will be the authoritative source before making future edits. Microsoft’s current instructions are at Export an Outlook calendar to Google Calendar.
Connecting a personal calendar to Outlook work or school
Microsoft also documents connecting one Outlook.com or Google account to an Outlook work or school account so personal events can be viewed and managed there. This is an account-connection workflow inside Outlook. It is not a live bridge from an AI Overview, and the documentation does not turn it into a universal two-way synchronization promise for every calendar combination. If an event originates in Gemini Apps, you must still verify how the connected Outlook account receives it. Neither Microsoft’s export guidance nor its connected-calendar guidance says that an AI Overview can select Outlook as its write target.
What is documented for Apple Calendar
Google Calendar Help includes a topic for adding Google Calendar events to Apple Calendar, as well as separate topics for handling Google Calendar invitations in other calendar services and syncing with computer programs. That establishes that Google publishes Apple Calendar interoperability guidance. The indexed help result reviewed here does not provide the detailed, platform-specific steps, and it does not connect those steps to AI Overviews.
Accordingly, the reliable path is to create or manage the event in the calendar service that supports it, then follow the current Google Calendar or Apple Calendar account-setup instructions for moving or displaying that data. Check the event in Apple Calendar afterward; the presence of a Google Calendar help topic is not proof that an Overview writes directly into Apple’s app.
Because calendar-account menus differ by iPhone, iPad, Mac, operating-system version, and organization policy, use the current instructions in Google Calendar Help rather than relying on a Search Overview to invent a setup sequence.

- You want an answer with web sources: use an AI Overview, but plan to create the event yourself in the calendar app.
- You want natural-language event creation: use Gemini Apps with the required account, Keep Activity, and Google Workspace connection.
- You want an event extracted from email: use Gmail’s documented “Add to Calendar” action when it appears.
- You need a one-time Outlook-to-Google move: export the Outlook calendar and import the iCalendar file, remembering that it is a snapshot.
- You need to view a personal calendar in a work Outlook account: use Microsoft’s connected-account workflow and confirm your organization permits it.
- You need Apple Calendar: follow the current Google Calendar and Apple Calendar account instructions; do not assume that an Overview is the integration layer.
Troubleshooting when an event does not appear
The prompt was entered in Search
If you asked an AI Overview to “add this to my calendar” and received text or links instead of an event, that is consistent with the documented product boundary. Open Gemini Apps or the relevant calendar app and repeat the request there.

The wrong account or calendar is connected
Check the signed-in Google account, Keep Activity status, Google Workspace connection, and the calendar account selected in the calendar app. A successful Gemini response does not prove that Outlook or Apple Calendar is the destination.
An Outlook import looks stale
That is expected for Microsoft’s export route: the imported iCalendar copy is a snapshot. Make later changes in the source and destination separately, or repeat the transfer when you intentionally want a new copy.
Gemini omitted an invitee or event detail
Google lists adding or inviting people and changing some existing-event details among Gemini’s limitations. Add the missing information directly in the calendar app and verify the final event.
The generated details look wrong
Google warns that Gemini Apps can hallucinate or provide outdated information and advises reviewing the sources shown after a response. For a calendar entry, independently check the date, time zone, venue, recurrence, and organizer before relying on it.

As of the Google and Microsoft documentation reviewed on October 13, 2026, there is no documented action that lets a Google Search AI Overview create an event directly in Outlook or Apple Calendar. Use Gemini Apps for the separately documented natural-language calendar workflow, Gmail for its own “Add to Calendar” action, and Outlook or Google/Apple calendar settings for transfers and account connections. Keep those workflows separate, and treat any future AI Overview calendar behavior as a new feature that needs its own documentation.
