Yes, but only on TVs that offer it. Filmmaker Mode is a picture preset built into certain television models, not a Netflix app setting. Netflix’s Help Center documents it on some 2020 Panasonic TVs, and on those sets it cannot run at the same time as Netflix Calibrated Mode. Below is what Netflix’s guidance covers, how to switch it on, and what to check when a title looks dark or lower quality than you expect.
What Filmmaker Mode is and where Netflix supports it
Filmmaker Mode is a TV picture setting intended to show content close to the creator’s intended look. Netflix’s Help Center describes it on Panasonic sets this way: some 2020 Panasonic TV models have a Filmmaker Mode that adjusts picture quality settings to preset values (Netflix Help Center, How to use Netflix on your Panasonic TV or Blu-ray player).
Two points follow from that wording. First, support is tied to specific models, so it should not be assumed for every Panasonic set, every model year, or any other brand. Second, the mode changes how the TV displays picture; it does not change what Netflix sends. The table below shows how the two manufacturer pages Netflix publishes differ.

How to turn on Filmmaker Mode on a supported Panasonic TV
Netflix’s Panasonic instructions describe the following path. Menu names can differ on other sets, so use these steps as a guide on a Panasonic model that Netflix lists.
- Press Menu on the TV remote.
- Select Picture.
- Switch on Filmmaker Mode.
- If Netflix Calibrated Mode is active, turn it off first, because the two cannot be on together on the covered models.
If the Filmmaker Mode option does not appear, the TV is probably outside the models Netflix describes. Check the exact model number and its 2020 release against Netflix’s page before assuming a menu fault.

Filmmaker Mode does not raise the streaming quality
A common assumption is that a picture preset will unlock 4K or HDR. It will not. Netflix separates the picture preset from the stream, and the resolution and dynamic range a title plays at depend on several factors that the TV preset cannot change.
Netflix’s guidance on video quality (How to get the best video quality) points to the following checks, which apply to every title:

- Title availability: a title may be offered in 4K in general but show a lower quality label on your device or plan.
- Plan: your subscription tier determines which formats you can receive.
- Device capability: the streaming device or TV must support the format.
- Network stability: Netflix’s Panasonic page gives 15 megabits per second as a steady connection for Ultra HD on that device. This is a Netflix recommendation for that playback case, not a general requirement for Filmmaker Mode.
- Connection chain: cables, HDMI-connected devices and any receiver or intermediary box in the path can limit the format.
Netflix also notes that playback may start at a lower quality and rise after it begins. A lower label in the first seconds is therefore not, by itself, a sign of a fault.

If a picture appears too dark after you enable Filmmaker Mode, the cause is usually the TV’s brightness or HDR settings rather than Netflix itself. Netflix’s guidance on dark titles (TV shows or movies are too dark) recommends checking the TV’s brightness and HDR controls.

Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm Filmmaker Mode is on and that Netflix Calibrated Mode is off on a covered Panasonic model.
- Open the title’s details page on your device and read its quality label.
- Check the TV’s brightness setting; a preset can look dim if the backlight has been lowered.
- If the device offers an HDR on/off control within Netflix, compare the picture with HDR on and off.
- Test a different title of known quality to separate a title issue from a setup issue.
Some HDR-capable devices expose an HDR control inside Netflix, while some TVs do not. TV-side menu steps vary by make and model, so if you cannot find these controls, consult the TV’s own manual.
