Yes—Adobe Premiere Pro runs natively on Apple-silicon Macs, including M1 models. But compatibility is not the same as Adobe’s current recommended hardware tier: its requirements for Premiere 26.x recommend M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, or newer. Whether a particular M1 Mac suits your work also depends on its memory, macOS version, footage, and project demands.

What Adobe’s current requirements mean for an M1 Mac

Adobe’s technical-requirements page, last updated September 9, 2026, covers Premiere versions 26.0, 26.2, 26.3, 26.3.2, and 26.5. For those releases, Adobe lists macOS Sonoma (version 14) and 8 GB of memory as minimum requirements. For Apple silicon, it specifies at least 8 GB of unified memory. Its recommended Apple-silicon processors are M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, or newer, with 16 GB of unified memory recommended. Adobe’s Premiere system requirements describe the minimum specifications as intended for HD editing and the recommended specifications as intended for HD, 4K, or higher-resolution editing.

That distinction matters: Adobe lists M1 Pro and higher for its recommended processor tier, but this does not mean the base M1 is incompatible. It means Adobe’s current recommendation is aimed at more demanding work than its minimum. Requirements are not a promise that every project will play smoothly or export at a particular speed.

Why older articles may say that M1 is the minimum

Adobe’s earlier Premiere 25.x requirements page named Apple M1 as the minimum processor and macOS Ventura (version 13) as the minimum operating system. It listed 8 GB RAM as the minimum and 16 GB unified memory as recommended for Apple silicon. That page was last updated March 30, 2026. Adobe’s Premiere 25.x requirements explain why older guidance may describe M1 as the minimum.

#1 Best Overall
Late 2020 Apple MacBook Air with Apple M1 Chip (13.3 inch, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD) Space Gray (Renewed)
  • Retina display; 13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology (2560x1600 native resolution)
  • Apple M1 chip with 8 cores (4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores), a 7-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine
  • 8GB memory | 128GB SSD
  • Backlit Magic Keyboard | Touch ID sensor | 720p FaceTime HD camera
  • 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 wireless networking, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac compatible | Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology

Requirements can change between releases. Check the page for the specific Premiere version you plan to install, especially if your Mac is running an older macOS release. The current 26.x requirements call for Sonoma 14; the older Ventura minimum on the 25.x page should not be treated as the current requirement.

Premiere runs natively, not through Rosetta

Adobe lists Premiere among the applications that run natively on Apple-silicon Macs. Adobe’s Apple-silicon compatibility information identifies the app as native. Current Premiere on Apple silicon should not be described as requiring Rosetta: Adobe says that its video and audio products have not supported Rosetta emulation since version 24.0. Adobe’s Rosetta troubleshooting guidance gives that version cutoff.

  • Go longer than ever with up to 18 hours of battery life
  • Up to eight GPU cores with up to 5x faster graphics for graphics-intensive apps and games

Codec acceleration depends on the chip and format

Apple-silicon compatibility does not mean every codec or encoding mode uses hardware acceleration. Adobe’s documentation says M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, or newer supports hardware-accelerated H.264 and H.265 encoding and decoding, including 10-bit 4:2:2 decoding. It also specifies an exception: HEVC HLG 4:2:0 10-bit encoding still relies on software. See Adobe’s hardware-accelerated decoding and encoding documentation.

That statement names Pro, Max, and Ultra tiers or newer; it should not be generalized to the base M1. If your work depends on a particular camera format, bit depth, or export mode, check Adobe’s codec documentation for that format rather than assuming that all M1 Macs accelerate it equally.

  • 16-core Neural Engine for advanced machine learning - 8GB of unified memory so everything you do is fast and fluid

How to judge whether your M1 setup fits your work

  • Check the Premiere release and macOS first. For the listed 26.x releases, Adobe specifies macOS Sonoma 14 minimum. Older Premiere releases may have different requirements.
  • Check unified memory. Adobe lists 8 GB as the Apple-silicon minimum and 16 GB as recommended for current requirements. These are published requirements, not guarantees for a specific project.
  • Match the chip claim to your format. Adobe’s cited H.264 and H.265 acceleration support explicitly names M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, or newer. Do not assume the same support for base M1 or every codec workflow.
  • Consider the project, not just whether the app opens. Resolution, codec, effects, and the number of concurrent tasks can affect workload. Adobe’s requirements do not provide a base-M1 benchmark or specific playback and export-time guarantees.
  • Plan storage for the workflow. Adobe recommends a fast internal SSD for the application and cache, plus an additional high-speed drive for media. A separate media drive is workflow guidance, not a condition for Premiere to run.

Bottom line on Premiere Pro and M1

Premiere Pro does work on M1 Macs and runs natively on Apple silicon. Adobe’s current 26.x page, however, recommends M1 Pro or higher and 16 GB unified memory, while listing 8 GB unified memory as the minimum. Treat an original M1 as compatible—not as equivalent to the recommended tier—and verify the current requirements for your intended release, macOS, and footage format.
