No—not when you compare screens of the same size from the same distance. A 4K monitor has more pixels than a 1440p monitor, so it can show finer image detail. OLED’s contrast can make a picture look more vivid, but it does not add resolution. Text clarity is a separate issue: it can vary with the panel’s subpixel layout.
Why 4K usually looks sharper at the same size
Resolution is the total number of pixels in an image. At the same screen diagonal, 4K packs more pixels into each inch than 1440p, allowing it to render finer detail and smoother edges. Samsung’s OLED Monitor Buying Guide likewise describes 4K OLED monitors as having a higher pixel count than 1440p OLED monitors.
Screen size matters. A 27-inch 1440p display versus a 27-inch 4K display is a more direct resolution comparison than a 27-inch screen versus a 32-inch one. Pixel density and apparent sharpness depend on both resolution and diagonal; they also depend on how far away you sit. LG discusses resolution as a balance among clarity, the games you play, and your PC’s capability in its 4K versus 1440p guide.
What OLED changes—and what it does not
OLED pixels emit their own light, which enables strong contrast between dark areas and bright highlights. That can make scenes feel more vivid or defined, but contrast is not the same as spatial detail: it does not supply pixels missing from a 1440p image. A 1440p OLED can look more striking than another display without being sharper in fine detail than a same-size 4K screen.

Why text can look different on OLED
Text rendering depends partly on how a display arranges its red, green, and blue subpixels. Traditional computer text rendering is designed around an RGB subpixel arrangement; when a panel uses a different layout, some text may show edge artifacts or color fringing. The effect varies by panel and viewer, so it is not a certainty on every OLED monitor.
RTINGS’ discussion of OLED text clarity notes that 4K OLED text is closer to comparable 4K VA displays than the lower-resolution OLED examples it examines. That comparison does not mean every 4K OLED has identical text rendering: panel generation and subpixel layout still matter. See RTINGS’ text-clarity guide.

- OLED Makes All The Difference: With a display of these mammoth-like proportions, everything must look good. The WQHD quantum dot OLED display with true 10Bit is obligated to offer stunning contrast, cinematic color. Image retention-refresh keeps the images from sticking.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- Fast and Furious: If you want seamless gameplay at ridiculous levels of speed, you’ve come to the right place. With an 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms (G to G) response time, your sessions will be fluid, unbroken and unmatched – with little to no ghosting.
- Brilliant Colors: With the DCI-P3 99% color gamut, Delta E<2, and HDR10, colors are practically bursting out of the screen. Enjoy the best imagery your games have to offer!
- Center of Vision: At 26.5-inches, the X27U is directly in your field of view. Considered a hallmark of eSports tournaments, this is the perfect size to gain an edge over your opponents. The addition of a ZeroFrame design also removes the bezels – giving you have even more visibly over every match and every movement your rivals make.
What this means for gaming performance
Rendering at 4K means producing more pixels per frame than at 1440p. That can demand more from a gaming PC, while 1440p may be a better match for players prioritizing high refresh rates or for hardware that cannot deliver their desired performance at 4K. The actual result depends on the game, settings, and hardware; there is no single FPS gain that applies to every system.

At 75 cm, will you see a difference?
At 75 cm, the answer depends on your screen’s size, eyesight, content, and sensitivity to fine detail. Sitting farther away makes pixel structure less apparent, but the available sources do not establish a universal distance at which 4K always becomes visibly sharper. Compare monitors at your normal desk distance if possible, using the same size and similar content to isolate the resolution difference.

How to compare monitors fairly
When choosing between actual models, compare the factors that can change what you see and how a game runs:
Recommended Free Tools
- Resolution and active diagonal: Consider them together; a resolution label alone does not determine pixel density.
- OLED panel and subpixel layout: These can affect text edges as well as the image’s overall appearance.
- Refresh rate: Check the rate you want alongside the resolution you expect your PC to render.
- GPU capability and game settings: Decide which resolution your system can drive at the performance you want.
- Normal seating distance: Judge apparent sharpness from where you will actually use the monitor.
If the screens differ in size or panel generation, account for those differences rather than attributing every visible change to resolution alone.
