Choose DoDonPachi Resurrection Reignite if you want CAVE’s current Steam release, stage-by-stage training, or its up-to-10-player Shooting Royale mode. Choose DoDonPachi DaiOuJou if you want the distinct 2002 arcade game and M2’s Switch or PS4 edition, Re:Incarnation, with its Hyper, chaining, and shot-versus-laser systems. Neither is a straight replacement for the other: platform access and the kind of play you want matter more than a universal winner.

These titles can be easy to confuse because “Resurrection” appears in the names. DaiOuJou is also known in English as DoDonPachi Blissful Death. DoDonPachi Resurrection is a later sequel, and Resurrection Reignite is a refreshed release of that later game—not a new name for DaiOuJou. What Reignite offers on Steam
CAVE’s Steam release date for Resurrection Reignite is 26 August 2026. CAVE’s Japanese notice gives the local release time as 27 August 2026 at 10:00 JST, which corresponds to 26 August at 18:00 PDT. CAVE lists Steam as the supported platform. CAVE’s Steam listing; CAVE’s release notice.
Training, including AREA6
On 2 October 2026, CAVE announced version 1.1.0, which added Training Mode for every stage, including AREA6. That makes Reignite a practical choice if you want to practise particular sections and build routes without treating each attempt as a full run. Shooting Royale and other additions
The Steam description presents Shooting Royale as a new kind of shooting battle in which up to 10 players compete. It also lists new Stage 6 content, new characters called “Daughters” in the English listing, assist features, and new background music. The up-to-10 figure applies to that mode; it does not mean the main game is a 10-player co-op campaign. CAVE’s Steam listing.
As of CAVE’s 2 October 2026 update, an AREA6 addition to Royale was planned for November, and Black Label was planned for winter. What DaiOuJou Re:Incarnation offers
DaiOuJou is the older, distinct arcade entry, released by CAVE in 2002. M2 ShotTriggers’ Re:Incarnation is a console release of that game for Nintendo Switch and PS4; M2 gives its release date as 7 December 2023. M2 describes a game built around choices and score systems rather than Reignite’s newer additions: select shot or laser strategies, manage the Hyper system, and keep chains going while navigating dense bullet patterns. The second loop culminates in a true boss. These features make DaiOuJou the more direct pick if you specifically want to learn this arcade game’s established systems and routes. CAVE’s catalog says it ended repairs of the original arcade board because parts are difficult to obtain and repair. That concerns the arcade hardware, not M2’s separate Switch and PS4 release. CAVE’s arcade catalog.

How to decide between them
- Choose Reignite if Steam is your platform, you want current stage training, or Shooting Royale and its up-to-10-player format are the draw.
- Choose DaiOuJou Re:Incarnation if you want the 2002 game on Switch or PS4 and are interested in its Hyper, chaining, and shot/laser mechanics.
- Consider both if your goal is to explore two separate entries in CAVE’s series rather than find alternate versions of one game.
Do not use the word “harder” as a deciding fact without qualification. CAVE characterizes the broader series as high-difficulty vertical shooters built around dodging dense enemy fire, and M2 describes challenging systems and patterns for DaiOuJou. Those descriptions do not establish a comparable difficulty ranking between these two releases.
Check platform and price before buying
CAVE’s launch notice listed Reignite at a regular launch price of ¥3,150 / US$24.99. That is launch pricing, not a current quote; storefront price, discounts, and regional availability can change. Confirm the current Steam price before purchase. CAVE’s release notice.
