No. One purchase of a qualifying digital Xbox Play Anywhere game gives you access on Xbox console, Windows 10/11 PC, and supported gaming handhelds at no extra charge. It only applies to games marked as Play Anywhere, not every Xbox title.
When one purchase works on Xbox and PC
Xbox says an eligible digital game can be played on the supported devices without buying it again. The entitlement is tied to the Xbox Live/Microsoft account used to buy or redeem the game. Sign in with that account to find the game in your library.

Xbox lists the supported platforms as Xbox consoles, Windows 10/11 PCs, and supported gaming handhelds. Its FAQ specifies Windows 10 Anniversary Edition update or later and the latest console update. See Xbox’s Play Anywhere FAQ and participating-games list.
How to check whether a game qualifies
- Before buying, look for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge on the game’s listing in the Xbox Store or Windows Store.
- Check Xbox’s participating-games list if the listing is unclear. The list can change, so verify the exact game before purchase.
- Buy or redeem an eligible digital copy through the Xbox Store, Windows Store, or a digital code from a participating retailer.
- On Xbox, sign in to the purchasing account and look under Ready to Install. On Windows PC, sign in to that account and check My Library.
Store availability and terms can vary by region; Xbox’s cited FAQ is its US page.

What does not count as a Play Anywhere purchase?
Games without the designation
An Xbox game that is not marked as Play Anywhere does not gain cross-device access just because it is an Xbox title. Check the badge or official list rather than assuming a console purchase includes the PC version.
Disc copies
Play Anywhere applies to digital games. Xbox explicitly excludes disc games, so a physical copy does not provide the Play Anywhere entitlement.

Subscription catalog access
Xbox’s Play Anywhere FAQ explains ownership of a qualifying digital game, but does not explain how Game Pass catalog access affects Play Anywhere entitlement or what happens if a subscription game leaves the catalog. Do not treat subscription access as ownership; check the current subscription terms for the title.
Can you play on Xbox and PC at the same time?
No. Xbox says the same game may be signed in on one Xbox console, one Windows 10/11 PC, or one supported handheld at a time; it does not allow simultaneous sign-in on those devices. Play Anywhere lets you move between supported devices without another purchase, not use the same entitlement for concurrent play on multiple devices.

Do saves and add-ons carry over?
For an owned Play Anywhere game, Xbox says saves, achievements, and add-ons travel with you across supported devices. Achievements use one shared set, and DLC for an owned Play Anywhere game can be used on those devices.
