No, AppleCare+ does not make a case unnecessary for everyone. AppleCare+ can help with the cost of eligible accidental damage after it happens; a case adds a physical layer intended to reduce exposure to some everyday damage. Choose based on whether avoiding added bulk matters more to you than reducing the chance of damage, and whether you are comfortable paying any applicable service fee and arranging service if an accident occurs.
AppleCare+ and a case do different jobs
AppleCare+ is service coverage, not a protective shell. Under the U.S. plan terms, eligible accidental damage from handling is damage caused by an unexpected and unintentional external event. Apple may repair or replace a covered iPhone, subject to the applicable fee and the terms of the plan. A case, by contrast, sits on the phone and provides a physical layer between it and some impacts or contact with other objects.
That difference matters when answering the practical version of the question: “If I damage my iPhone, will AppleCare+ make skipping a case cheap enough?” It may reduce the covered repair cost compared with paying for an otherwise eligible repair without the plan, but it does not make every kind of damage free, prevent the accident, or guarantee that an incident will be covered. A case may reduce exposure to damage, but it cannot guarantee the phone will survive a fall.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Choice | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| AppleCare+ without a case | Can help with eligible service after accidental damage, subject to plan terms and fees. | Does not physically shield the iPhone or cover every kind of damage. |
| A case without AppleCare+ | Adds a physical layer that may help protect the phone from some scratches and drops. | Does not guarantee protection or pay for a repair if damage occurs. |
| AppleCare+ and a case | Combines a physical layer with potential service coverage for eligible damage. | Does not eliminate the risk of damage, service fees, or the need to check coverage. |
| Neither | Avoids the cost and feel of a case and the cost of an AppleCare+ plan. | Leaves the owner to bear the consequences of damage without those forms of protection. |
There is no universal right choice. The decision is a trade-off between physical protection, the cost and inconvenience of a possible repair, and the way the phone feels to use.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)

- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
What AppleCare+ covers—and where it stops
Eligible accidental damage has terms and fees
Apple’s U.S. AppleCare+ terms describe eligible accidental damage from handling as arising from an unexpected and unintentional external event. Covered service is provided by repair or replacement, subject to the applicable fee. The U.S. terms also exclude normal wear and tear and cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality. That means AppleCare+ should not be treated as scratch insurance: a mark that affects only appearance may not qualify for service.
Apple’s U.S. AppleCare Fees and Deductibles page lists $29 for iPhone screen and back glass damage and $99 for other accidental damage. Those are U.S. figures published on Apple’s fees page and accessed in 2026, not worldwide prices or a promise that every incident will cost only that amount. Apple says a separate fee applies to each repair or replacement. The actual amount and eligibility depend on the device, region, and plan terms; applicable taxes may also matter.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Use those amounts as examples only if your plan and location match the U.S. page. Before relying on a repair-cost comparison, check Apple’s current fees for your country and your iPhone, then read the agreement attached to your plan. A fee for one category of damage should not be assumed to apply to a different type of damage.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Incident limits depend on the plan terms
Apple’s current overview says AppleCare+ includes unlimited accidental-damage incidents per covered device. An older U.S. plan document describes a two-service-event limit, so the two statements should not be collapsed into a universal rule. Plan documents can change, and the terms that apply can depend on when and where coverage was purchased or on amendments to the agreement. Check the terms for your own plan rather than relying on a limit quoted for another plan version.

Loss and theft are separate from accidental damage
Ordinary AppleCare+ should not be read as coverage for a phone that is lost or stolen. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is a separate option. Apple’s cited U.S. disclosure requires Find My to have been enabled at the time of loss or theft and lists a $149 deductible. That amount comes from a 2022 U.S. disclosure, so it should not be treated as a current, universal deductible; state-specific insurance documents and current terms may differ. If loss or theft is part of your decision, confirm the certificate and requirements that apply to your coverage.
When going case-free may make sense
Going without a case can be a reasonable personal choice if you prefer the phone’s uncased feel and are willing to accept the possibility of a service visit and its applicable fee after eligible damage. It is not a conclusion AppleCare+ makes for you: it depends on your tolerance for the risk, your budget for a repair fee, and how much you value avoiding a case’s added bulk and change in handling.

Think about how you use and carry the phone. If it is often handled while moving, carried with other objects, or used in places where a drop is a concern, the case’s physical layer may be valuable to you. If you prioritize an uncased phone and accept the potential cost and inconvenience if it is damaged, you may decide to skip one. These are personal considerations, not measured predictions of how likely your particular iPhone is to be damaged.

Cosmetic condition is another separate consideration. If keeping the original finish pristine matters, AppleCare+ is not a substitute for physical protection: the U.S. terms exclude normal wear and tear and cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality. A case may help reduce some exposure to marks, but no case is a guarantee against scratches or other damage.

When using both is the better fit
A case and AppleCare+ can complement each other if you want both a physical barrier and a way to manage the cost of eligible service. The case addresses exposure before an accident; coverage can help after an eligible incident. Neither makes the other redundant, and using both does not mean every repair is free or that the phone cannot be damaged.
This option is especially straightforward if you would be unhappy with cosmetic wear, would rather reduce the chances of needing service, or find an accident disruptive even when a repair is covered. You are paying for two distinct forms of protection: a case is an optional accessory, while AppleCare+ is a plan governed by its coverage terms and service fees. Whether that combination is worthwhile is a value judgment, not a universal financial rule.
How to decide for your iPhone
- Check the plan you actually have. Confirm that the coverage is AppleCare+ for your iPhone, identify whether it includes Theft and Loss, and review the agreement for accidental-damage eligibility, exclusions, fees, and incident limits. Do not assume that another owner’s plan terms apply to yours.
- Confirm local service costs. Use Apple’s current fees for your country and device. The $29 and $99 figures above are examples from Apple’s U.S. page; they should not be used as estimates for another region or plan.
- Decide how much physical protection matters. Consider whether your priority is reducing exposure to drops and scratches, preserving the finish, or retaining the phone’s uncased feel. A case can help with some forms of exposure but cannot guarantee an undamaged phone.
- Include the cost and inconvenience of service in your decision. If paying a service fee and arranging repair or replacement after an eligible incident would be acceptable, going case-free may suit you. If you would rather reduce the chance of damage and avoid a service visit where possible, a case may be worth using even with coverage.
- Choose a case for the exact iPhone model. If you decide to use one, make sure it is compatible with your phone. Choose MagSafe compatibility only if that feature matters to your accessories or charging setup. Treat manufacturer protection descriptions as product claims, not independent test results or guarantees.
Apple describes its iPhone 17 Clear Case with MagSafe as providing extra protection and says it is built to protect the iPhone from scratches and drops. That is Apple’s description of its product, not an independent drop-test result or a promise that the case prevents damage. The same distinction applies when evaluating protection claims for any case: a physical layer may help, but the outcome of a particular impact is not guaranteed.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming AppleCare+ pays for every mark. The U.S. terms exclude normal wear and tear and cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality.
- Assuming coverage means free repairs. Apple lists service fees for U.S. damage categories, and separate fees apply to each repair or replacement.
- Applying U.S. fees everywhere. The cited $29 and $99 figures are U.S. amounts; check the current fee and terms for your own country, phone, and plan.
- Using an old incident limit as a universal rule. Apple’s current overview and an older U.S. plan document use different incident-limit language. Your own agreement is the relevant reference.
- Treating Theft and Loss as part of standard AppleCare+. It is a separate option with its own requirements and deductible; verify the applicable certificate.
- Expecting a case to prevent all damage. A case adds a physical layer, not certainty. Product descriptions are not guarantees or independent test results.
