Thumbstick extenders can change how Fortnite aiming feels by adding height and grip to a controller’s sticks, which may help some players make small adjustments or keep their thumbs from slipping. But the available sources do not show that extenders improve Fortnite aim for players in general, or produce a measurable accuracy or win-rate increase. They are an optional control accessory, not a guaranteed upgrade.
What a thumbstick extender changes
A thumbstick extender fits over a controller’s original analog stick. KontrolFreek says its Performance Thumbsticks add height, grip and surface area. The manufacturer’s explanation is that extra height gives the thumb a wider movement arc, which may make small stick movements feel smoother or more controlled.
That describes a possible change in feel, not a proven Fortnite performance result. The available sources do not independently measure how much, if at all, an extender improves aiming in the game.
What the evidence does not establish
No independent, quantified study in the available sources directly measures Fortnite aim improvement from thumbstick extenders. There is no supported percentage gain, accuracy increase or rank effect to cite. The benefit is best described as player-dependent: an extender may suit someone who prefers its grip or movement feel, but it is not a demonstrated shortcut to better aim.
#1 Best Overall
- INCREASED ACCURACY - Mixed height combo for faster target acquisition and increased precision on the right, as well as better control and maneuvering on the left
- IMPROVES COMFORT & GRIP - Non-slip, proprietary rubber compound offers exceptional grip and requires less force which reduces wrist, hand and thumb fatigue
- ONE HIGH-RISE (CONCAVE) THUMBSTICK - That adds 10.0 mm for increased accuracy on right analog
- ONE MID-RISE (CONCAVE) THUMBSTICK - On the left analog for enhanced control with in-game movement while adding a nominal height of 6.5 mm
- VERSATILE - The added grip and comfort works well across your entire library of games and protects stock thumbsticks from wear and tear *Packaging May Not Reflect Updated Compatibility
Nor do the sources show that a physical extender changes Fortnite’s aim-assist system. Epic documents aim assist as an in-game controller setting, separate from the controller hardware.
How height, grip and fit affect the choice
- Compatibility: Check that the specific extender is made for your exact controller model; fit is not universal.
- Height: KontrolFreek describes low-, mid-, high- and mixed-height options. A taller stick changes the thumb’s movement range and feel, but more height is not automatically better.
- Grip: Added surface area or grip may be useful if your thumb slips, even if improved aim is not your main reason for trying one.
- Personal preference: Because the change is physical, the same extender can feel helpful to one player and awkward to another.
How to try one without changing too much at once
- Verify the fit. Check the product’s compatibility information against your controller model before buying or attaching it.
- Keep your settings steady at first. Try the new stick feel before making several sensitivity changes, so you can tell what the extender itself changes for you.
- Give yourself time to adapt. KontrolFreek says a new user may initially feel that aim is too fast, too slow or unfamiliar, and advises trying the setup for a few sessions. This is manufacturer adjustment guidance, not a guaranteed adaptation timeline.
- Adjust sensitivity gradually if needed. If the feel remains uncomfortable, make small changes rather than changing sensitivity sharply. KontrolFreek recommends incremental adjustments.
Where to adjust Fortnite aim settings
Epic’s support guidance says to open Fortnite’s controller options and turn on Advanced Options to access sensitivity settings. Aim Assist Strength is under the Controller options. Epic notes that not all settings are available on every platform, so the exact options you see may vary.

Changing those in-game settings is separate from attaching an extender: one changes Fortnite’s controller configuration, while the other changes the physical stick’s height and grip.
