Usually, a robot vacuum/mop’s hot-water or steam feature treats its mop pads at the dock, not the floor. A claim that a dock reduces bacteria on pads does not establish that the robot sanitizes or disinfects floors. To disinfect a floor, use a product labeled for that surface and follow its dilution and wet-contact directions; check the robot and flooring instructions before using chemicals or hot water.
What does “hot-water mop washing” mean?
It can describe a dock cleaning the robot’s dirty mop pads during or after a task. That is different from heating water the robot applies during its floor pass. A dock may also use steam to treat pads and warm air to dry them; neither step, on its own, demonstrates that the floor was sanitized.
For example, Samsung’s UK Bespoke Jet Bot Combo page describes dock-based steam washing. It reports a 50–60°C steam-and-water mixture, 100°C steam, and 50–60°C drying air. These figures describe the dock’s pad-washing and drying process, not a floor treatment. Samsung UK product page
ECOVACS likewise describes a hot-water pad-cleaning process at the station: the pads are first moistened with cold water, then cleaned with hot water. Its support page says hot water is not dispensed for pad cleaning in energy-saving mode. That describes dock operation, not proof of floor disinfection. ECOVACS support

Does a pad-cleaning result prove the floor is sanitized?
No. Samsung reports that Intertek testing using the Wash the Mop course found up to 99.99% reduction of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa on mop pads. The claim is specific to pads and that test course; it is not a result for floors. Samsung’s page describes the test, but that does not independently establish that a robot’s floor pass sanitizes a surface. Samsung UK product page
For a sanitizing or disinfecting claim to apply to a floor, evidence needs to match the target surface and actual use conditions. Heat applied to a pad at the dock is not the same exposure as heat or a cleaning solution applied to a floor.

How to disinfect a floor safely
- Clean first. Remove visible soil before disinfecting. The U.S. EPA explains that dirt and organic matter can reduce the effectiveness of some disinfectants. EPA educational guidance
- Choose a product labeled for the floor surface and intended use. Follow its directions for dilution, application, and how long the surface must remain wet. Directions vary by product; do not assume a general recipe.
- Check compatibility before using it with a robot. Confirm both the robot manual and flooring instructions allow the chosen product and method. Do not put a disinfectant or hot water in a robot tank unless that model’s manufacturer explicitly permits it.
For example, the directions on the U.S. EPA label for CRB I (EPA Reg. No. 5813-121, dated February 16, 2022) specify a five-minute contact period for specified hard, nonporous floors. That is an instruction for that product and those specified surfaces—not a universal contact time. EPA product label

Tank and pad-care rules differ between models, so a hot-water feature on one dock does not mean another robot can safely use hot water or disinfectant. iRobot says not to add hot water, detergent, or disinfectant to the Roomba 200/2000 Combo tank because doing so could damage the robot; it directs users to approved solutions. iRobot mopping instructions

For the same Roomba 200/2000 Combo family, iRobot’s pad-care instructions call for cold-water hand washing and air drying. Follow your own model’s manual for the tank, pads, and permitted cleaning solutions rather than borrowing another brand’s dock instructions. iRobot pad-care instructions

- Where the heat is applied: during the floor pass, in the dock’s pad wash, as steam treatment, or during drying.
- What the temperature describes: water, steam, or drying air—and whether that temperature reaches the floor.
- What was tested: mop pads or the floor surface; note any named organisms and test conditions disclosed.
- What the evidence supports: a manufacturer-reported pad claim is not interchangeable with a floor-specific result.
- What the manual permits: tank contents, pad washing, and compatible chemicals can vary by model.
