35 mph is about 51.3 feet per second, but Hasbro’s published specifications do not establish that as a typical or universal Nerf dart speed. The number can’t be confirmed without a model-specific test. It’s also easy to confuse dart velocity with a blaster’s firing rate or advertised range—different measurements that describe different things.
What does 35 mph mean for a Nerf dart?
At 35 mph, an object travels about 51.3 feet in one second. That is a unit conversion, not evidence that a Nerf dart reaches that speed. Hasbro’s product information gives specifications for particular blasters and projectiles, but the reviewed sources do not identify a standard dart-and-blaster combination that produces 35 mph or state one speed that applies to Nerf darts generally.
The published figures are manufacturer claims, not independent chronograph measurements. Hasbro’s cited materials do not describe a shared test method or conditions that would make the figures directly comparable.
How to distinguish velocity, firing rate, and range
- Velocity describes how fast a projectile travels, often in feet per second (fps).
- Firing rate describes how many projectiles a blaster fires over time.
- Range describes how far a projectile travels. It is not a speed measurement.
For example, Hasbro says the Nerf Ultra Speed fires seven darts per second. That is its firing cadence—not the speed of each dart. Its instructions also say it is compatible only with Nerf Ultra darts. Hasbro’s Ultra Speed instructions give those product details.

Likewise, Hasbro lists up to 90 feet (27 meters) of range for the Nerf Elite 2.0 Volt SD-1. That is a distance claim, not 90 feet per second. The Volt SD-1 product page identifies it as range.
What Hasbro’s published speed figures actually describe
| Blaster | Published specification | Projectile and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Nerf Rival Fate XXII-100 | 90 feet per second | A Nerf Rival Accu-Round, not a standard foam dart. Hasbro’s product page does not describe a common test protocol or independent validation. Hasbro product page. |
| Nerf Pro Stryfe X | Up to 150 feet per second | Hasbro’s 2023 product materials specify half-length darts designed exclusively for this blaster and magazine; the product is for ages 14 and up. This is not a general speed figure for Nerf darts. Hasbro product materials. |
| Nerf Ultra Speed (F4929) | Seven darts per second | Firing rate, not projectile velocity; compatible only with Nerf Ultra darts. Hasbro instructions. |
| Nerf Elite 2.0 Volt SD-1 | Up to 90 feet (27 meters) | Range, not projectile velocity. Hasbro product page. |
These specifications refer to different projectiles and different measurements. They should not be treated as a head-to-head velocity comparison or as proof that ordinary Nerf darts travel at 35 mph.

Check dart compatibility and use the blaster safely
Match replacement darts to the specific blaster. For example, the Ultra Speed is designed for Nerf Ultra darts; Hasbro says it includes Nerf AccuStrike Ultra darts and works only with Nerf Ultra darts. That compatibility information does not make Ultra darts a universal replacement for other Nerf blasters.
Follow the safety instructions for the exact product. For the Ultra Speed, Hasbro says, “Do not aim at eyes or face,” recommends eyewear for players and people within range, and warns against modifying the blaster or darts. Its instructions add: “Use only official Nerf darts. Other darts may not meet safety standards.” The Rival Fate page also recommends eyewear. See the Ultra Speed instructions and Rival Fate product page for their respective guidance.
