They strengthen the case, but they do not settle it. Waste Connections (NYSE: WCN) reported growth and raised its 2026 outlook, while some third-party analysts lifted their views. But the shares’ October 2, 2026 technical reading reflected weak momentum—not proof of a bargain or an imminent rebound. Whether WCN is attractive still depends on valuation, execution and your investment horizon.
What the business reported—and what management expects
Waste Connections reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $2.562 billion, up 6.4% year over year. Adjusted EBITDA was $840.1 million, up 6.8%, and the adjusted EBITDA margin was 32.8%. These are company-reported figures in its July 22, 2026 earnings release.
The company raised its full-year outlook to the ranges below. Management said the outlook assumes no change in the current economic environment and cautioned that actual results may differ materially.
| 2026 company outlook | Range |
|---|---|
| Revenue | $10.02–$10.05 billion |
| Adjusted EBITDA | $3.33–$3.34 billion |
| Adjusted free cash flow | $1.40–$1.45 billion |
Management pointed to operational execution, recent commodity values, fuel-cost recovery and acquisitions closed to date as supports for the higher outlook. Those drivers are not guaranteed: commodity prices and costs can change, while acquisitions require integration and financing. Adjusted EBITDA and adjusted free cash flow are non-GAAP measures; compare them with the company’s definitions and reconciliations in its release rather than treating them as interchangeable with net income or cash from operations.
Are third-party forecasts and analyst views improving?
Some reported analyst actions were positive. Benzinga’s September 2026 analyst-action coverage said UBS upgraded WCN from Neutral to Buy and raised its target to $200 on September 18. Wolfe Research initiated coverage at Outperform with a $204 target on September 15. These are analyst opinions reported by a third party, not company guidance or promised share prices.
Stock Analysis displayed current-year estimates changing from $5.15 to $5.64 for EPS and from $9.47 billion to $10.04 billion for revenue. The page’s displayed figures do not establish the precise consensus window or analyst set, so they are best read as vendor-reported estimate changes, not a definitive consensus or management forecast.
Earnings Whispers reported that, as of October 1, 2026, 26 brokers covered WCN: 23 Buy, 3 Hold and 0 Sell. The broad optimism may indicate improving sentiment, but it also means a favorable view is widely shared. Ratings and targets can lag changes in the share price and should not be treated as independent assurance of upside.
What does the oversold signal actually say?
In an AlgovestIQ snapshot for the October 2, 2026 close, WCN was $153.82, with a 14-day relative strength index (RSI) of 28.03. The 50-day simple moving average was $163.04 and the 200-day average was $163.99. An RSI below the commonly used 30 threshold is often called oversold; the price was also below both moving averages, indicating recent weakness. These are dated technical observations, not evidence that the stock is undervalued or certain to rebound. RSI and moving averages can change quickly.

How to weigh the investment case
Evidence supporting the case
- Second-quarter revenue and adjusted EBITDA grew year over year, and the company raised its full-year outlook.
- Reported analyst actions and vendor-displayed estimates moved in a favorable direction.
- The technical snapshot shows a substantial pullback relative to recent averages, which some investors may view as a potential entry point if the business outlook holds.
What could weaken it
- The raised outlook depends on execution and assumptions about economic conditions, commodity values, fuel recovery and acquisitions.
- Weak price momentum may persist; an oversold reading is not a timing signal with a guaranteed outcome.
- Positive analyst sentiment may already be reflected in the price, and analyst targets can be wrong or outdated.
- The available figures do not establish fair value. A sound valuation would require assumptions about growth, margins, capital spending, free cash flow, leverage and the returns from acquisitions.
WCN is therefore a stronger operating story than the weak chart alone suggests, but the evidence here cannot establish that the shares are cheap. Investors should compare the share price with their own estimate of future cash flows and decide whether the business risks and potential returns fit their time horizon and risk tolerance.

Waste Connections’ investor-relations events and presentations page listed the Q3 2026 earnings call for October 22, 2026. As of October 3, that event was still upcoming. The results and any updated guidance could confirm or challenge the raised outlook; they are not yet evidence of how the company performed in the third quarter.
