Verdict: The DKnight Big MagicBox is still a practical, loud budget speaker for indoor listening, speech and inexpensive used replacement purchases, but it is not a strong choice for refined music, wet outdoor use or modern wireless features. Its 4,000 mAh battery, physical controls, auxiliary input and speakerphone are useful; restrained bass, directional sound, dated Bluetooth and uncertain new-stock availability are the main drawbacks.

How the Big MagicBox sounds
Loudness and tonal balance
The speaker can play loudly for its size and price. Independent listening reports disagree somewhat on distortion: Tech Advisor heard distortion at high volume, while Cult of Mac reported little distortion even at maximum volume. Both accounts support using it as a high-output casual speaker, not as a consistently clean party monitor.
The recurring criticism is tonal rather than volume-related. Tech Advisor described disappointing bass, harsh mids and limited treble extension. ComputerBase likewise found restrained bass and somewhat dull highs. Expect intelligible vocals and adequate background music, but not deep low-end impact or detailed, balanced sound.
Stereo image and placement
The drivers sit close together and face one direction, so the Big MagicBox does not create a convincing wide stereo field. Cult of Mac also noted that it is not a 360-degree speaker. Place it facing the listeners rather than relying on room-filling sound from every angle.

Battery life and charging
What runtime to expect
The manual specifies up to 10 hours of playback and says around five hours may be possible at maximum volume. Tech Advisor and Cult of Mac reported roughly 12 hours under their respective listening conditions. These figures are not contradictory guarantees: volume, Bluetooth source, content and battery age all change runtime. A realistic expectation for an older unit is several hours at high volume and closer to the manual’s upper figure at moderate volume if the battery remains healthy.
Charging procedure
- Connect a micro-USB cable to the speaker’s charging port.
- Plug the other end into a 5 V, 1 A USB wall charger, as recommended by the manual.
- Allow approximately three to four hours for a full charge.
- When charging is complete, the red LED turns off.
The manual says the speaker can be used while charging. A replacement cable or adapter must still match the connector and electrical requirements; do not assume every micro-USB accessory is suitable.

Is it waterproof?
No. The Big MagicBox has no stated water-resistance protection. Keep it away from rain, splashes, pools, bathrooms with heavy condensation and damp storage. Outdoor use is reasonable only in dry conditions, with the speaker protected from weather.
Controls and everyday use
The physical controls cover playback, calls and power functions, and the built-in microphone supports speakerphone conversations. Bluetooth handles wireless playback; connecting a 3.5 mm cable switches the speaker to auxiliary operation and disables Bluetooth. That behavior is useful to know when troubleshooting a phone that suddenly appears disconnected.

Bluetooth range and modern limitations
ComputerBase achieved approximately 20–25 metres in practical testing, depending on the source and environment, below the manufacturer’s claimed roughly 40 metres. Walls, interference and the transmitting device affect the result. Bluetooth 4.0 also reflects the speaker’s age: newer models commonly offer more current Bluetooth features, improved multipoint behavior or codecs, none of which should be assumed here.

Marketplace listings have included a Big MagicBox USB charging cable on eBay UK. Confirm that the listing explicitly names the Big MagicBox or DKBIGBOX and shows a matching micro-USB connector before ordering.

Power adapter
Walmart has listed a K-MAINS adapter marketed as compatible with the DKnight Magicbox. Compatibility remains the buyer’s responsibility: verify the model, plug size, voltage and polarity against the speaker and adapter listing. The manual’s charging guidance is 5 V at 1 A.
Used replacement units
Used DKnight Magicbox speakers have appeared on Poshmark. Inspect battery condition, charging behavior, port damage and included cables before purchase. SoundGuys’ February 2022 update reported that the later Magicbox II had been discontinued, so treat any claim of current new stock as volatile and check the exact model and seller.

- Confirm the label says DKBIGBOX rather than a different DKnight model.
- Ask how long the battery lasts at the seller’s normal volume and whether it charges fully.
- Check that the micro-USB port accepts a cable without looseness or intermittent contact.
- Test Bluetooth pairing, the 3.5 mm input, playback buttons and the microphone.
- Listen at both moderate and high volume for rattling, harshness or unexpected distortion.
- Confirm that the seller includes a compatible cable or price one separately.
Final assessment
The Big MagicBox’s best qualities are straightforward: it is compact, relatively light at 425 g, loud, easy to operate and equipped with a substantial 4,000 mAh battery. Its age shows in the sound balance, narrow directional presentation, lack of water protection, Bluetooth 4.0 and uncertain parts supply. Buy it when a clean, inexpensive used unit meets those needs; otherwise, a current speaker is the safer long-term purchase.
