Yes, but by a smaller margin than DJI’s launch material suggests. In the hands-on review and matched comparison published by TechRadar in September 2026, the Osmo 360 II’s upgraded night mode, AI SuperNight 2.0, produced visibly cleaner and sharper after-dark footage than the original Osmo 360, and it can shoot at up to 60fps where the earlier mode was capped at 30fps. Against the Insta360 X6 in the same test, though, the DJI camera did not win the night image-quality comparison: the X6 had a slight edge.
What the low-light upgrade actually changes
DJI announced the Osmo 360 II on September 3, 2026. Its central low-light claim rests on AI SuperNight 2.0, a successor to the night mode on the first Osmo 360. The company describes its night footage as “exceptionally clean,” a promotional characterization rather than an independent measurement. The independent evidence available comes from TechRadar’s reviewer, Sam Kieldsen, who tested the camera after its launch.
Image quality after dark
Kieldsen was underwhelmed by the original Osmo 360’s SuperNight, calling it decent but no more. He found the SuperNight 2.0 results “significantly cleaner and sharper.” That is a reviewer’s judgment on the footage he shot, not a laboratory measurement, so readers should treat it as a qualitative improvement rather than a precise percentage gain. His overall verdict was that the changes are real but evolutionary: nighttime footage still does not match daylight detail.
Frame rate ceiling
The practical change most readers will notice is frame rate. SuperNight 2.0 can record at up to 60fps, where the original camera’s night mode topped out at 30fps. That matters for action such as cycling, skating, or driving after dark, where 30fps can look choppy or blur fast movement. The higher ceiling is a capability of the mode; the reviewer’s comparison does not establish how the 60fps output compares in noise or sharpness with the 30fps output.

The D-Log M trade-off
The main limitation is color flexibility. SuperNight 2.0 cannot record in D-Log M, the flat log profile that many editors prefer for grading. Standard color and Adaptive Tone remain available. If you plan to grade night footage heavily, you will be working with a processed image rather than a flat log file, and you should test whether Adaptive Tone gives you enough latitude for your workflow before a shoot.
How it compares with Insta360 X6 in low light
TechRadar’s matched comparison mounted the Osmo 360 II and the Insta360 X6 on a car and matched settings and conditions. Daytime footage was exported at 10-bit/100Mbps and nighttime footage at 10-bit/160Mbps. The results split by lighting condition:

| Condition or feature | DJI Osmo 360 II | Insta360 X6 |
|---|---|---|
| Daytime image quality | Retained more detail in bright skies | Cleaner and sharper overall |
| Nighttime image quality | Clean and sharp, slightly behind | Slight edge; greener/yellower default tint that can be corrected in post |
| Low-light mode frame rate ceiling | Up to 60fps (SuperNight 2.0) | 30fps (PureVideo mode) |
| Waterproofing without case | 10 m, IP68 rated | 20 m, IP68 rated |
| Battery life | Shorter per reviewer’s cited specifications | Longer per reviewer’s cited specifications; figure not stated in the comparison |
| Built-in storage | 105 GB | 47 GB |
The table reflects the reviewer’s cited figures from TechRadar’s comparison. Waterproofing and battery values come from the reviewer’s summary of each manufacturer’s specifications and should be checked against current regional spec sheets before purchase.
The honest reading is that the X6 wins on the criteria a single test can measure, while DJI wins on frame rate in low light and on built-in storage. If you shoot mostly at night and need the cleanest still-looking frame, the reviewer’s test favors the X6 slightly. If you shoot fast movement after dark, or want more storage in the box, the Osmo 360 II’s advantages are concrete.

Battery, heat, and runtime
DJI’s runtime claim is 100 minutes of continuous recording at 8K/30fps. DJI states the test conditions as 25°C, Wi-Fi and voice/gesture controls off, Editing Assistant off, and screen off. Real use with the screen on or wireless features active will reduce that figure, and the company does not publish a like-for-like number for those settings. DJI also says the Battery Extension Rod adds 180 minutes and that fast charging reaches 80% in 22 minutes.
Heat is a separate limit. In one reviewer test at a 22°C ambient temperature, recording at maximum 8K settings ran for approximately 34 minutes before the Osmo 360 II shut down to cool. That is a single test result, so expect your own runtime to vary with ambient temperature and settings. For long outings at high resolution, plan breaks rather than assuming the rated battery time.

Availability: check your region first
DJI’s announcement describes a global launch. TechRadar reported in September 2026 that DJI’s US regulatory authorization was still pending at that time. Availability, pricing, and the Care Refresh terms may therefore differ by country, and the situation may have changed since those reports. Before buying, confirm with DJI’s regional store or an authorized retailer that the Osmo 360 II is sold and supported where you live.
Who should choose which camera
- Choose the Osmo 360 II if you shoot fast action after dark and want 60fps low-light capability, need more built-in storage, or plan to use DJI’s microphone ecosystem.
- Choose the Insta360 X6 if night image quality is your top priority, you want more waterproofing without a case, or you value longer rated battery life, and you are willing to accept a 30fps low-light ceiling.
- Plan for color correction with either camera at night, because both need grading to get neutral footage, and the Osmo 360 II’s SuperNight 2.0 rules out D-Log M.
Both cameras remain a judgment call based on how you shoot. The matched comparison is one reviewer’s test under a specific car-mounted setup, so it is best used as one data point alongside your own tests.
The Bottom Line
The Osmo 360 II’s SuperNight 2.0 is a genuine low-light improvement, especially for 60fps night footage and cleaner image quality than the original Osmo 360. It does not clearly beat the Insta360 X6 for night image quality in the matched test, so the right pick depends on whether frame rate and storage or raw night image quality matter more to you.
