To fly a DJI Mini 3 Pro, activate it in DJI Fly, choose a legal open location, wait for the aircraft to establish its Home Point, then take off gently and practise nearby while keeping it in visual line of sight. Obstacle sensing and published flight-time figures are useful aids—not guarantees. Local rules depend on where and how you fly, and on the aircraft’s actual configuration.
Before flying, check the location and local rules
Choose an open area away from buildings and obstacles. DJI recommends keeping the aircraft in visual line of sight and avoiding flight over people, animals, or moving vehicles. These are manufacturer recommendations, not a complete statement of the law where you live.
DJI advises checking local laws and regulations before flight. Registration, airspace restrictions, and other requirements vary by location and operation, so consult your relevant aviation authority and an appropriate airspace map for the exact place and aircraft configuration. Do not assume the standard Mini 3 Pro’s listed weight settles every legal question.

DJI also says it is not recommended to fly within 10 meters above water. This is DJI’s safety guidance, not a universal legal minimum.

Activate and connect the Mini 3 Pro
- Unfold and inspect the aircraft. Check the airframe and propellers for damage or anything loose before powering up.
- Power on the aircraft and controller. Use the controller workflow that came with your kit: some setups use a mobile device, while DJI RC has a built-in screen and does not require a phone for linking.
- Open DJI Fly and complete activation. DJI requires activation before first use; follow the app’s on-screen prompts.
- Link the aircraft if needed. In DJI Fly, open the Control interface and select “Re-pair to Aircraft (Link)” when the controller needs to be paired.
- Check the app and aircraft status. Confirm the aircraft is ready and review any warnings before attempting takeoff.
DJI Fly is the Mini 3 Pro’s app for activation and settings. For exact controller stick modes, button behavior, and procedures, use the DJI Mini 3 Pro Download Center, which lists User Manual v1.6 dated 2024-01-12. Controller configurations and control settings can differ, so do not assume every kit has identical controls.
Make a cautious first takeoff
- Move to the selected open area. Keep clear of people, animals, vehicles, buildings, and obstacles.
- Wait for a strong GPS signal and Home Point. DJI recommends taking off with a strong GPS signal so the Home Point can be set and positioning can be stable. Confirm the app indicates the Home Point is established before proceeding.
- Take off gently and hover nearby. Keep the aircraft in sight and give yourself room to respond.
- Practise small movements. Make modest control inputs, observe how the aircraft responds, and remain close enough to land without needing to navigate unfamiliar obstacles.
- Land under control. Choose a clear landing area and bring the aircraft down gently. Review the manual for the specific takeoff, landing, and controller procedures for your setup.
Understand obstacle sensing and its limits
The Mini 3 Pro has forward, backward, and downward vision sensors. DJI Fly offers three obstacle-response settings:

Detection depends on the environment and sensing conditions. These settings do not guarantee collision avoidance, so fly with a clear route and do not treat the sensors as a substitute for visual attention. Consult the manual for sensor and mode details.
Choose a battery with weight and flight time in mind

These are manufacturer maximum figures, not a promise of usable time on a particular flight. Conditions and how you fly affect actual flight time. The Plus battery is purchased separately; because it changes the aircraft’s weight, check the rules for your location and actual configuration. DJI also cautions that added weight affects propulsion and says not to add payloads such as propeller guards or third-party accessories when using the Plus battery.

Inspect propellers and prepare recording storage
Propellers
The Mini 3 Pro propellers are screw-mounted rather than quick-release. DJI says marked propellers must go on marked motors, and unmarked propellers on unmarked motors. Inspect them before flight and use replacement propellers compatible with the Mini 3 Pro if one is damaged; follow the manual’s replacement procedure.
microSD card
The aircraft has a microSD card slot for recording storage. DJI’s beginner guide directs users to place the card in the aircraft. Check DJI’s current supported-card guidance before choosing a card; the cited guidance does not establish a particular speed, brand, or capacity.

Use the Mini 3 Pro’s shooting and transfer features
DJI lists FocusTrack, MasterShots, QuickShots, Timelapse, Vertical Shooting, and QuickTransfer among the Mini 3 Pro’s features. DJI Fly is used for settings as well as activation.
For QuickTransfer, DJI’s beginner guide describes a wireless transfer from the aircraft to a phone. Its steps are to complete the aircraft self-check, enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the phone, open DJI Fly, accept the Mini 3 Pro prompt, and connect to the aircraft’s Wi-Fi. App prompts and screens can change; if the flow differs, consult DJI’s current instructions.
