The Lakhovsky Multi-Wave Oscillator (MWO) is a historical electrical apparatus, not a proven medical treatment. Its original patent describes insulated, concentric open rings connected to a high-frequency source, but it does not provide a complete modern build plan or establish that a homemade device is safe for use on people.
What is a Lakhovsky MWO?
Georges Lakhovsky’s U.S. patent US1962565A, titled “Apparatus with circuits oscillating under multiple wave lengths,” describes a device intended to send out different wavelengths simultaneously. Lakhovsky claimed French priority on May 2, 1931; the U.S. application was filed November 13, 1931, and the patent was granted June 12, 1934. Read the patent.
The patent states its objective this way: “The present invention has for its object an apparatus capable of sending out simultaneously different wave lengths so that among these waves or their harmonics there is found almost always one or several capable of producing the best effect sought for any application Whatever.” This is the inventor’s statement of intended function, not evidence that the apparatus produces a medical benefit.

The patent’s radiating structure consists of “a certain number of concentric open rings of different diameters,” insulated from one another. The rings may be arranged in one or more planes and made from solid or tubular conductors. Their ends may have small spheres that form capacitances. The patent description also gives an example high-frequency circuit involving a transformer, inductance, capacitance, and spark gap.

- Organized for Repeatable Learning: Pre-soldered modules, a solderless breadboard, storage case and small-parts box reduce setup time and keep sensors, LEDs, ICs, wires and other components easy to find between projects
That description is useful for understanding the historical design, but it is not a validated contemporary construction specification. It does not establish one correct ring size, provide a complete parts list, or define a safe implementation. Copper tubing is a possible material-level reference because the patent permits tubular conductors; that does not make it a recommended medical device or a complete build recipe.
Can you build one from the patent?
The patent gives a broad description of the apparatus rather than enough detail to derive a single, verified DIY design. In particular, it does not establish modern component ratings, protection measures, exposure limits, or a tested configuration. A drawing or historical description should not be treated as a wiring guide.

A later Lakhovsky patent, US2351055A, “Tube for producing multiple wave lengths,” was filed November 21, 1941, and granted June 13, 1944. It describes a later tube-form approach and states an aim of simplifying the apparatus for wider use. Like the earlier patent, it documents a design and its stated intentions—not proof of safety or efficacy. Read the later patent.
Because the described equipment involves high-frequency electrical apparatus, do not use an online diagram or historical patent as assurance that a homemade unit is safe. Any real apparatus requires review by a qualified electrical professional; that review would address electrical safety, not establish medical usefulness. The patents are not modern electrical safety standards or human-exposure assessments.

Does a Lakhovsky MWO work medically?
Historical advocates and modern proponents have attributed effects on cancer and other conditions to MWO exposure. Those are claims, not established clinical outcomes. A modern source-critical archive states, “The Lakhovsky coil is not a proven medical treatment.” Lakhovsky Coil is an archive, not a clinical trial.
The reviewed sources do not establish independent controlled clinical evidence or an attributable effectiveness statistic for MWO treatment. Patent language, anecdotes in Thomas J. Brown’s construction-oriented handbook, and promotional material cannot substitute for controlled clinical research. A commercial MWO page calls its instrument an “experimental, historical research instrument” and says it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or mitigate illness or disease; its resonance explanations are the seller’s claims, not independent scientific evaluation.

How to assess MWO designs and claims
Different devices described as Lakhovsky-style MWOs are not interchangeable medical treatments. A useful comparison is what each source actually documents, rather than its promised health effects:
