Disney channels disappeared from YouTube TV on October 30, 2025, after Disney and YouTube TV failed to renew their distribution agreement. The blackout ended after the companies announced a multi-year deal on November 14, and both said channels and saved recordings were returning. That agreement concerns YouTube TV’s live-TV service; it does not establish whether Disney movies and shows are currently available to buy or rent through YouTube.
Why did Disney channels disappear from YouTube TV?
The previous distribution agreement expired on October 30, 2025. With no renewal terms agreed by that deadline, Disney programming went dark on YouTube TV. The companies offered competing explanations for the breakdown, and neither account should be treated as an independent finding.
- YouTube said Disney proposed costly terms that could raise customer prices and reduce choice.
- Disney said YouTube TV refused to pay fair rates and sought preferential terms.
Disney also argued that its programming was important to YouTube TV subscribers. In an October 31, 2025 statement, Disney cited Nielsen figures saying viewership of Disney networks in YouTube TV households was up more than 15% year over year, based on gross minutes viewed dating back to 2020. Disney also cited a nearly 80% increase in sports and live-event programming on ABC over several years, and said ABC had aired nine of the top 10 broadcast college football games on YouTube TV so far in the 2025 season. These are figures Disney attributed to Nielsen or its own report, not independently verified findings here.

The blackout affected ABC, ESPN networks, Disney-branded channels, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic channels. The Associated Press also listed SEC Network and ACC Network. No source cited here provides a complete independently verified channel count, so a precise total is not established.

YouTube said it would offer subscribers a $20 credit if Disney content remained unavailable for an extended period. That was a contingent announcement, not a promise that every subscriber automatically received a credit.
Are ESPN and ABC back on YouTube TV?
Yes. On November 14, 2025, Disney and YouTube announced a multi-year agreement and said programming was returning. Disney said its full network and station suite, including ESPN and ABC, had begun to come back. YouTube said ABC, ESPN, FX, and other channels, along with previously saved recordings, were returning over the course of that day. The Associated Press described the blackout as lasting more than two weeks.

The agreement announcement also described ESPN Unlimited access for YouTube TV subscribers at no additional cost, with selected live and on-demand programming available inside YouTube TV. It mentioned genre-specific packages and an option to include the Disney+, Hulu bundle in select YouTube offerings. These were announced provisions; the announcement alone does not establish the current availability or terms of each option.
Did YouTube remove Disney movies and shows?
A separate YouTube support notice said Disney movies and shows would no longer be available for purchase or rental on YouTube during the expired agreement. This is different from the YouTube TV channel blackout: YouTube TV is a live-TV service, while YouTube’s storefront sells or rents individual titles.

The available information does not establish whether Disney purchase and rental access later resumed. Do not assume that the November 14 YouTube TV agreement also restored storefront availability; check the title’s current YouTube listing before planning a purchase or rental.
How can you watch Disney content without YouTube TV?
During the 2025 blackout, Disney and the Associated Press named other pay-TV and live-TV services as alternatives, including DirecTV, Fios, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, Spectrum, and Xfinity. Those were options identified at the time, not a guarantee of present-day channel carriage. Before switching, check the provider’s current lineup and availability for your address.
