The Dimplex GDDE25E is a refrigeration dehumidifier rated at 25 litres of moisture removal per day, with a 3.5 L tank and a recommended room range of 12 to 30 m². The 25 L figure is a test-condition rating, measured at 32°C and 80% relative humidity, not a daily yield to expect in an ordinary room. Whether it is a good buy cannot be settled from the material publicly available: the expert rating and most measured results on CHOICE’s review page are restricted to members. This article covers what Dimplex publishes, what that means in practice, and what remains unverified.
What the GDDE25E is
The GDDE25E is a refrigeration dehumidifier. It draws room air over cooling elements, so moisture condenses and collects in the tank, then passes the dried air through a condenser and back into the room slightly warmer. Dimplex Australia’s instruction manual, which covers the GDDE25E and the GDDE50E, describes this cycle. The unit has electronic controls, adjustable humidity, a timer, automatic defrost, castors for moving it, and a washable plastic dust filter.

The manual states that the appliance label takes precedence over published data where values may vary for technical reasons. If a figure matters for a purchase decision, check the rating label on the unit itself.

Refrigerant: a conflict in the listings
Dimplex’s current specification sheet gives R410a. At least one older listing for the model shows R134a. Do not treat refrigerant as a selling point, and confirm it against the label on the unit or current Dimplex documentation if it matters to you.
What the 25 L/day rating means
The 25 L/day figure is the manufacturer’s rating under one stated condition: 32°C and 80% relative humidity. Moisture removal depends on how much water vapour is in the air, so a cooler or drier room will typically produce less water per day. The manual does not publish alternative figures for other conditions, so the difference cannot be quantified from the Dimplex material alone.

The manual also notes that a running compressor produces heat and can raise room temperature. In a closed room this effect is worth considering, particularly in warmer weather.
When comparing this model with others, use the same conditions. A 25 L rating at 32°C and 80% relative humidity cannot be set against another brand’s figure measured at a different temperature and humidity.

Room size
Dimplex recommends the GDDE25E for rooms of 12 to 30 m². This is a manufacturer recommendation, not a measured result for a particular room. Room size is only one factor. Insulation, sealing, the number of windows and doors, and how much moisture the household generates all affect how hard the unit has to work. The manual advises closing outside doors and windows for more effective operation.
Water tank and drainage
The 3.5 L tank is the default collection point. When the tank is full, the compressor stops. For longer runs, the unit can drain continuously through a hose instead, but the hose is not included.

Setting up continuous drainage
- Switch the unit off and unplug it before working on the rear.
- Unscrew the rear cap, following the manual’s instructions.
- Attach a garden hose to the drain nozzle. Confirm the fit before you rely on it, because the manual does not name a hose diameter.
- Run the hose to a floor drain, keeping it free of kinks and knots so water flows downhill throughout its length.
- Stand the unit on a level surface and confirm the tank is correctly seated.
- Run the unit and check the first few hours to confirm water drains and the unit does not shut off.
The manual warns that an uneven surface or incorrect hose setup can cause water to back up into the tank and switch the unit off. If this happens, the cause is usually the level surface or the hose route rather than the unit itself.

Placement and operation
- Place it on a level surface with at least 45 cm of clearance on each side.
- Close outside doors and windows while it runs.
- Choose between continuous, living-room and bedroom modes, and set a timer if you want the unit to run for specific periods.
- Select high or low fan speed and set the humidity level.
- Before moving the unit, switch it off and empty the tank.
Filter care
The washable plastic dust filter needs regular attention. The manual asks for the following routine.

- Unplug the unit before cleaning.
- Remove the filter and clean it about every two weeks while the unit is in use.
- Wash it in warm soapy water.
- Let it dry thoroughly before refitting.
- Do not put the filter in a dishwasher.
- Never run the unit without the filter in place.
The clean-filter indicator comes on after 250 hours of operation. Use it as a reminder, not a replacement for the regular fortnightly check.
Warranty and support
Dimplex lists a two-year domestic warranty for the model, and CHOICE’s public page also states two years. The warranty terms themselves were not part of the material reviewed, so check the conditions that come with your purchase. Dimplex Australia publishes product support for dehumidifiers. A distributor listing for the GDDE25E shows model-specific spare-parts information, but stock and prices on such pages change frequently and should be checked directly.
Independent review evidence
CHOICE has a dedicated review page for the Dimplex GDDE25E. The public part of that page identifies the product as a refrigeration dehumidifier and lists the claimed 25 L/day removal rate, the 12 to 30 m² room range, the 5 to 32°C operating range and the two-year warranty. The CHOICE expert rating, the water-removal, energy-efficiency and ease-of-use scores, and several measured results are available to members only. This article does not report them, and it does not describe any hands-on testing or owner experience with the unit.

- Whether your room falls within 12 to 30 m² and what its moisture load is likely to be.
- Whether you can run a garden hose to a floor drain, or will empty the tank by hand.
- Whether you have a clear 45 cm on each side for airflow.
- Whether you are prepared to clean the filter about every two weeks.
- Whether the members-only CHOICE results matter for your decision.
The Bottom Line
The GDDE25E is a 25 L/day refrigeration dehumidifier, rated for rooms of 12 to 30 m² under a 32°C and 80% relative humidity test condition. Its published specifications are internally consistent on the main points, and its drainage and filter routines are clear. Independent performance results are restricted to CHOICE members, so this article cannot give a verdict on how well it performs in practice.
