Digital Realty agreed to buy eight Equinix data-center assets in Europe for $874.4 million on May 16, 2016; Equinix announced that the sale closed on July 5, 2016. Equinix said the divestiture was required for European Commission approval of its TelecityGroup acquisition.
Why did Equinix sell the eight data centers?
Equinix said the European Commission required the eight-asset divestiture as a condition of approving its acquisition of TelecityGroup, which had closed in January 2016. The $874.4 million sale agreement was announced on May 16, 2016. Equinix’s July 5 closing announcement gave the completed sale’s value as approximately $874 million, a rounded figure for the same transaction. Equinix’s May 16 announcement and July 5 closing announcement describe the rationale and completion.
Which facilities were included?
The portfolio comprised five facilities in London, two in Amsterdam, and one in Frankfurt. Equinix identified the sites in its transaction announcements.

What did Digital Realty say it was buying?
In its May 16, 2016 announcement, Digital Realty described the portfolio as approximately 24.4 megawatts of IT load serving more than 650 clients. It also reported a weighted-average remaining lease term of approximately 23 years for seven leasehold interests, including contractual extension options; the eighth facility was acquired as a fee interest. These are transaction-era figures disclosed in the announcement, not current capacity, customer counts, or lease terms. Digital Realty’s announcement was filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission: SEC-filed announcement.
Was the Paris data center part of the eight-site sale?
No. The St. Denis facility and associated operating business in Paris were a separate arrangement, not one of the eight divested sites. In May 2016, Equinix said it had an option to acquire the property and business from Digital Realty; the site was associated with Equinix’s PA2 and PA3 data centers. On July 5, Equinix announced a separate purchase agreement for the Paris operating business and real estate at €189.75 million, approximately $211 million, subject to formalities and then expected to close in the third quarter of 2016. The cited announcement establishes those announced terms, but not the arrangement’s ultimate closing date or present-day status. See the May announcement and the July announcement.

What the 2016 announcements establish—and what they do not
The transaction announcements document the sale’s timing, consideration, cities, named facilities, and the buyer’s reported portfolio metrics at the time. They do not establish the eight facilities’ current branding, ownership structure, utilization, or capacity. Those later operating details should not be inferred from the 2016 transaction figures.
