The claim that Words With Friends recently added more than 25,000 words is unverified. Zynga’s documented large dictionary update was a 2017 launch that the company said added 50,000 words. A 2026 announcement about a contest offered one winner the chance to add a chosen word; it did not announce a bulk update.
Is the 25,000-word Words With Friends update confirmed?
No attributable announcement or in-game notice identified for this claim confirms that Words With Friends has added more than 25,000 words in a recent update. The available official notices do not establish the figure, the words involved, when any update happened, or where it was available. Treat the number as an unverified claim, not a confirmed feature change.
Zynga’s 2017 announcement of the Words With Friends Social Dictionary is a separate, historical update: the company said it introduced 50,000 new words, drawing on player requests and player- and pop-culture-inspired language. That figure does not verify a new 25,000-word expansion.
What did Zynga announce in 2026?
On July 16, 2026, Zynga announced Friendiversary, a 17-day in-game event, alongside a “Become a Solo Star” contest. The contest announcement said one winner could have a chosen word added to the official game dictionary and become a playable character in a future Solo Challenge event. It described an individual contest prize, not thousands of dictionary additions.

What is still unknown about the alleged update?
The current claim is not accompanied by an established word list or details that would let players identify or verify a rollout. The available sources do not state:

- an app version or rollout date;
- which countries or players received the change.

Does another dictionary or word game confirm the claim?
No. Words With Friends uses its own in-game word list; acceptance in a general English dictionary or another word game does not establish that a word is accepted in Words With Friends. A search result for an exact phrase referred to Text Twist, a different game, and is not evidence about Words With Friends.
