Tom Kim won the men’s individual golf gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, but the available reports do not confirm that he withdrew from the Baycurrent Classic afterward. The PGA Tour listed him in its October 2 field report for the tournament, scheduled for October 8–11—before Kim’s gold-medal final round on October 3. That earlier listing cannot establish his later status.
Did Tom Kim withdraw from the Baycurrent Classic?
It is not confirmed by the available reporting. The PGA Tour’s October 2 field article listed Kim for the Baycurrent Classic, but that was published a day before the Asian Games golf final. Neither that listing nor the event’s 2026 announcement confirms whether he withdrew after winning gold.
The Baycurrent Classic’s PGA Tour competition dates were October 8–11, 2026, at Yokohama Country Club. The field listing is a dated snapshot, not proof of a later start or withdrawal. A later official field update or reliable report would be needed to settle the claim.

Individual gold was separate from the team result
Kim’s gold was an individual title; China won the team competition, while South Korea took team silver. The AP reported that Japan’s Kazuki Higa won individual silver and Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana earned bronze after a playoff for the remaining medals. South Korean teammate S.H. Kim therefore did not receive the exemption associated with a team gold.
Why the gold medal mattered to Kim
For South Korean men, Asian Games individual gold can bring an exemption from the full military-service requirement. The PGA Tour’s October 2 report describes the general service period as 18 to 21 months; that range is background context, not a claim that every individual’s service lasts the same amount of time. The AP reported that Kim received the exemption after winning gold.

The dates explain the apparent contradiction: Kim was listed for a tournament beginning October 8, while the Asian Games final took place on October 3. The October 2 PGA Tour story also reported that Kim had a one-stroke lead with one round remaining and that South Korea then led the team competition. Those were standings before the final round, not the eventual results.

Accordingly, the confirmed news is Kim’s individual gold and the earlier Baycurrent field listing. The withdrawal claim remains unverified in the cited reports; the pre-event listing alone cannot resolve it.
