Yes—according to a September 12, 2024 report, Sony’s separately sold PS5 Disc Drive had sold out at PlayStation’s official Spanish store, Amazon Spain, and GAME shortly after the PS5 Pro reveal. That was a dated report about three retailers in Spain, not proof of a worldwide shortage or current stock status.
What happened after Sony revealed PS5 Pro?
Sony announced PS5 Pro on September 10, 2024, and said the console would ship without a disc drive. Buyers who wanted to use physical media could purchase the existing PS5 Disc Drive separately. Sony gave November 7, 2024 as the console’s release date. Sony’s PS5 Pro announcement
Two days later, Spanish outlet AS / MeriStation reported that the accessory had sold out at PlayStation’s official Spanish store, Amazon Spain, and GAME. The report establishes a short-term sellout at those named retailers; it does not provide a global inventory count or show that every seller was out of stock. AS / MeriStation’s September 12 report
Can you add a disc drive to PS5 Pro?
Yes. Sony lists its official PS5 Disc Drive as compatible with PS5 Pro. It is a separate accessory, not an included component. Sony’s US listing also names PS5 Digital Edition model groups CFI-2000 and CFI-2100 as compatible; check the product listing for your region and verify your console’s exact model before buying.
