Android Authority reported on October 2, 2026, that the NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro was listed for $300.26 on Amazon and $299.99 at Best Buy—about $100 above the $200 asking price cited in the report. Those are dated retailer observations, not guaranteed current prices. NVIDIA’s US product page displayed $199.99 when accessed October 3, 2026, and the available information does not establish that NVIDIA formally raised the device’s MSRP.
What changed—and what the prices do and don’t establish
The headline refers to a sharp gap between retailer listings reported by Android Authority on October 2, 2026 and the price shown on NVIDIA’s US product page the following day.
| Price observation | Amount | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon listing, reported October 2, 2026 | $300.26 | A retailer listing reported by Android Authority; not a live-price guarantee. |
| Best Buy listing, reported October 2, 2026 | $299.99 | A retailer listing reported by Android Authority; not a live-price guarantee. |
| NVIDIA US product page, accessed October 3, 2026 | $199.99 | The amount displayed on NVIDIA’s product page at that time; it does not by itself confirm a formal MSRP. |
| Original launch price, announced October 28, 2019 | $199 | NVIDIA’s launch price for the Pro with remote, 3 GB memory, and 16 GB storage. |
The reported retailer prices are roughly $100 above the $200 prior asking price cited in the report. They do not show that every seller is charging that amount, that the price is permanent, or that NVIDIA changed its official price. The original launch price and today’s displayed product-page price are also different kinds of reference points, separated by years.

Why is the SHIELD TV Pro so expensive now?
The reason for the reported listings has not been confirmed. Android Authority writer Hadlee Simons suggested a possible memory-and-storage cost explanation, writing, “We’re guessing that the RAM crisis has resulted in NVIDIA paying more for the Shield TV Pro’s memory and storage.” That is the writer’s conjecture, not a statement from NVIDIA. No quantified memory-price trend or other verified causal evidence accompanies the report, so it would be misleading to treat a RAM shortage as the established cause.
The report also said NVIDIA declined to comment on the SHIELD TV Tube model’s future availability when it was out of stock. That does not amount to an announcement that the Tube has been discontinued.

Is the SHIELD TV Pro worth $300?
That depends on whether you will use its particular hardware and features. NVIDIA lists a Tegra X1+ processor with a 256-core GPU, 3 GB RAM, and 16 GB internal storage. It supports Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10, AI-enhanced upscaling up to 4K at 60 frames per second, Gigabit Ethernet, and two USB 3.0 Type-A ports. USB flash drives or an external hard drive can expand storage. The listed software is Android 11 powered by Android TV; check NVIDIA’s page for the current specification and software information.
For gaming, NVIDIA lists GeForce NOW compatibility and specifies that a compatible game controller or keyboard and mouse are required. Those features may matter if you want a single box for streaming, local USB storage, wired networking, and cloud gaming. If you mainly need ordinary streaming apps and will not use the Pro’s gaming, expansion, ports, or networking options, paying a substantial premium over the displayed $199.99 price is harder to justify on the available facts.

- Works with SHIELD TV 2015/2017/2019 models. Requires upgrade to the latest SHIELD Experience.
- Easy to use in the most darkly lit room. Pick up the remote and the buttons will instantly light up.
- Press the microphone button to access the powerful Google Assistant on your Android TV. Search for new movies, TV shows, or YouTube videos, look up stock prices, or check your commute time, all on your SHIELD TV.
- Customize your menu button with more than 25 choices. Launch your favorite app, enable AI upscaling, or mute your sound, or more! Different options can be applied to up to 3 actions: single press, double press, long press.
- Control your home entertainment center with SHIELD Remote’s built in IR blaster. Control volume, power, or input source.
NVIDIA’s launch announcement confirms the Pro originally cost $199 in 2019 and included a remote, 3 GB memory, and 16 GB storage. The company’s senior vice president of Consumer Business, Jeff Fisher, described the new models as “a big step up for SHIELD” at launch. That historical positioning does not establish that a $300 listing is good value today.
How to decide whether to buy or wait
- Check the price at checkout. Compare the retailer’s current listing with NVIDIA’s US product page; the October 2026 figures above are snapshots, not current-price promises.
- List the features you actually need. Give weight to the Pro’s USB expansion, Gigabit Ethernet, HDR formats, upscaling, or GeForce NOW support only if they fit your setup.
- Compare alternatives on the same criteria. Android Authority named the Google TV Streamer and onn 4K Pro 2026 as alternatives, but its report does not establish their prices or feature equivalence. Verify current US availability, app and platform support, HDR and audio formats, ports, storage, gaming and emulation suitability, software support, and any media-server functions you rely on before treating one as a substitute.
- Decide whether the premium is worth it to you. If the listing you find is far above NVIDIA’s displayed price and the Pro’s distinctive capabilities are not essential, waiting or comparing other devices is reasonable; the available information does not establish whether or when retailer prices will change.
