No. In the U.S., Samsung announced the Galaxy S25 Ultra with a 256GB starting price of $1,299.99—the same starting launch price as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, but public information cited here does not establish what Samsung paid for the chip or show that chip costs caused a retail price increase.
What the U.S. launch price shows
Samsung’s January 22, 2025 U.S. announcement listed the Galaxy S25 Ultra at $1,299.99 for the 256GB model. That matched the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s U.S. starting launch price. So the anticipated U.S. launch-price hike did not appear in the announced starting price.
This is a comparison of U.S. starting launch prices for the 256GB configurations, not a claim about current retailer offers, other storage tiers, or prices in other countries. Samsung said U.S. preorders opened January 22, 2025, with general availability beginning February 7, 2025.
Which Snapdragon chip is in the S25 Ultra?
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Samsung’s official U.S. launch announcement described the Galaxy S25 series as powered by that platform. Qualcomm said on January 22, 2025, that it worked with Samsung to customize the platform for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra globally.

- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
That establishes the chip and the companies’ collaboration; it does not establish the chip’s purchase price. A premium or customized processor could put pressure on a phone maker’s costs in theory, but the chip name alone cannot show how much Samsung paid or whether any cost was passed on to customers.
Does the Snapdragon 8 Elite explain a higher phone price?
No causal link is established. The available public information does not state Qualcomm’s per-chip invoice price to Samsung, the amount by which Samsung’s procurement cost may have changed, or a Galaxy S25 Ultra bill-of-materials calculation. It also does not show that chipset costs determined the retail price.

Because the U.S. 256GB launch starting price stayed level with the previous generation, it would be inaccurate to say that the S25 Ultra received a U.S. launch-price hike because of Snapdragon 8 Elite. That does not prove Samsung’s component costs were unchanged; it means the evidence does not verify those costs or connect them to a price increase.

Performance claims describe claimed capability, not procurement cost. They cannot be used to calculate what Samsung paid for the processor or to demonstrate that a chip-cost increase affected the phone’s price.
