Paramount Skydance’s new Class B shares did not fall on their first trading day: they closed at $11.74 on August 7, 2025, up 10 cents, or 1%, according to Reuters. That single-session result does not establish what happened over the following days. The shares began trading after Paramount Global and Skydance completed their merger, so the new ticker and the treatment of legacy shares matter when interpreting the debut.

What happened on PSKY’s first trading day?

Nasdaq identified August 7, 2025, as the first trading date for Paramount Skydance Corporation Class B common stock under the ticker PSKY. The merger closed before the market opened that day. Reuters reported that PSKY finished its debut session at $11.74, up $0.10, or 1%.

This is a reported closing price and one-day change. The available reports do not establish the opening price, intraday high or low, trading volume, or closing prices for each of the next several sessions. They therefore cannot support a claim that the stock struggled or declined across its “first days.”

Why did a new stock ticker appear?

PSKY represented the combined company, not simply a renamed Paramount Global share. In the merger, Paramount Global’s listed Class A and Class B shares were cancelled and retired; holders received cash or shares of the combined company according to the transaction terms and elections.

Nasdaq’s corporate-action notice identifies PSKY as the Class B security and gives the conversion terms for legacy holders. The company’s Form 8-K provides the transaction disclosures. These mechanics mean that a direct comparison between the new shares and the old PARA or PARAA ticker prices needs to account for the merger consideration; the ticker change alone is not a like-for-like price comparison.

Financing and ownership disclosed at closing

The Form 8-K reported a $6.0 billion aggregate purchase price for a private investment in public equity (PIPE) involving 400 million Class B shares at a stated $15 per share, less an approximately $29 million discount. It also disclosed warrants for certain investors. After closing, National Amusements Inc. and its subsidiaries held all Class A voting shares; Class B ownership was distributed among former Paramount holders, PIPE investors, and former Skydance owners. These are financing and ownership disclosures, not evidence that the market valued the shares at any particular level.

What business conditions formed the backdrop?

Paramount Skydance entered public trading amid pressure on traditional television. Reuters described declining linear-TV operations as viewers shifted toward streaming and reported nearly $6 billion in cable-asset write-downs. That is relevant business context, but it does not show why PSKY moved on its debut or on any later session.

The company’s investor-relations page describes planned output commitments and management’s target of at least $6 billion in run-rate synergies within three years. Those are company-stated plans and targets, not realized savings or guaranteed results.

What did company leaders and a merger critic say?

Reuters quoted David Ellison, identified as chairman and CEO of the combined company, saying: “Today marks Day One of a new Paramount… the coming months will be defined by a series of focused efforts to re-engineer how our company operates, produces its creative content, and goes to market.”

Reuters also reported that Anna Gomez, a Democratic FCC commissioner who voted against the merger, called it “the final chapter of a dark moment in our nation’s history” and criticized the settlement and regulatory approval. That was Gomez’s characterization of the transaction, not a court finding.

Is PSKY still the ticker?

In a Form 8-K filed October 2, 2026, the issuer said it intended to transfer its listing from Nasdaq to the New York Stock Exchange and change the ticker from PSKY to SKYD on or about October 6, 2026. The filing states an intention and expected date; it does not, by itself, confirm that the move was completed. Check a current exchange listing or issuer filing before relying on either ticker for present-day trading.

How to interpret claims that the stock was “down”

  • Check the date. The documented debut-session change was a 1% gain, not a loss.
  • Separate the first session from later trading. A first-day close cannot establish a multi-day trend.
  • Account for the merger. Legacy Paramount shares were cancelled and replaced under transaction terms, so their prices are not automatically comparable with PSKY.
  • Keep business context distinct from price causation. Cable write-downs and streaming competition describe pressures on the company, but the reported evidence does not attribute a specific share-price move to them.
