No new sale is established by the latest ownership figures cited here. Sharp identifies Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.—the Taiwan-listed company widely known as Foxconn—as its parent. As of March 31, 2026, Hon Hai and its wholly owned subsidiary together held 34.1% of Sharp’s voting rights. That is a substantial position, but it is not a majority stake, and the date matters: the figure does not establish whether ownership changed after March 31, 2026.
Who owns Sharp?
Sharp’s controlling-shareholder disclosure names Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. as its parent company. Hon Hai is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, according to Sharp’s disclosure. That corporate identification does not support describing the parent as a mainland Chinese company simply because a headline uses “China.”

Sharp’s figures distinguish shares held directly from voting rights held across the parent group:
| Measure | Reported position | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Hon Hai direct shareholding | 22.32% of Sharp’s shares | Shareholder table dated March 31, 2026. Sharp shareholder information |
| Foxconn (Far East) Limited shareholding | 11.81% of Sharp’s shares | Listed separately in the same March 31, 2026 shareholder table. Sharp shareholder information |
| Foxconn Technology Pte. Ltd. shareholding | 9.96% of Sharp’s shares | Listed separately in the same March 31, 2026 shareholder table. Sharp shareholder information |
| Combined voting rights held directly or indirectly by Hon Hai’s group | 34.1% | Sharp’s June 23, 2026 disclosure reports 22.3% held directly by Hon Hai and 11.8% held by its wholly owned subsidiary Foxconn (Far East) Limited, as of March 31, 2026. Sharp controlling-shareholder disclosure |
The shareholding table and voting-rights disclosure are different measures. Do not add every listed Foxconn-related shareholding to the 34.1% voting-rights figure or treat them as interchangeable. Sharp’s disclosure specifically gives the combined voting-rights position as 34.1%.

Does a 34.1% stake mean Sharp was sold?
Sharp formally describes Hon Hai as its parent, but the disclosed combined voting-rights figure is less than half. Parent-company status and majority ownership are not the same claim: Sharp’s own disclosure establishes the parent relationship, while the same disclosure reports 34.1% of voting rights for Hon Hai and its subsidiary. It is therefore more precise to say that Foxconn is Sharp’s parent and holds a substantial voting position than to say Sharp was just sold outright.
Was there a recent sale?
The cited ownership figures are dated March 31, 2026, and appear in a Sharp filing dated June 23, 2026. Sharp’s investor-relations index lists 2026 announcements, including first-quarter results posted August 7, 2026, but that index does not itself establish a later ownership change. The dated figures answer what Sharp disclosed for March 31; they cannot rule out transactions after that date. Sharp investor-relations releases and notices

A February 10, 2026 notice concerned a planned merger involving a wholly owned subsidiary, with April 1, 2026 as the planned effective date. It described an internal restructuring, not a sale of Sharp to a new parent. Sharp investor-relations releases and notices

Sharp reports that foreign shareholders collectively held 74.52% of its shares as of March 31, 2026. That is an aggregate across foreign shareholders, not the stake of a single owner. The shareholder table alone also does not identify the beneficial owners behind every nominee or trust-account holding. Sharp shareholder information
Quick Recap
How to read claims that Sharp “sold out”
- Check the measure: a direct shareholding percentage is not automatically the same as a group’s combined voting rights.
- Check the wording: Sharp calls Hon Hai its parent, but that does not mean Hon Hai holds more than half of Sharp’s votes.
- Check the date: the cited stake is a March 31, 2026 snapshot, not a guarantee about later transactions.
- Check the company named: Sharp identifies Hon Hai and notes its Taiwan Stock Exchange listing; “China” in a headline is not a substitute for that corporate information.
