Short answer: the available reporting does not identify a major fan theory that Rebecca Yarros officially confirmed in Threshing Day. The new book is a collection of Empyrean stories, not the next main-series novel. A separate reported comment about Ridoc concerns Yarros’s work on Book 4, not a theory confirmed by the collection.
What is the new Fourth Wing book?
Threshing Day is a collection of thirteen stories connected to the Empyrean world. Yarros’s official book page describes it as “Thirteen unforgettable stories. One Legendary Day.” USA Today reported that the deluxe first edition includes 16 original illustrations by Joe Requeza and that the book was scheduled for release on September 29, 2026. Yarros’s site now lists it as available; check the page or retailers for current editions and stock.

The collection is distinct from the fourth main-series novel. In a July 16, 2026 announcement reported by Publishers Lunch, Yarros said, “This collection contains thirteen threshing stories about some of your favorite characters and their dragons.” She also said, “I hope this gives you a fun trip back to Basgiath while I’m writing book four!”
Which theory did Yarros confirm?
The cited coverage does not name a fan theory that Yarros confirmed in Threshing Day, nor does it point to a passage in the collection establishing one. So the headline’s specific claim is not verified by the available sources. Without a named theory and a direct statement or textual evidence tied to this book, it would be misleading to report that the collection officially confirms one.

That does not prove no reader will find a story consistent with a theory. It means the sources establish the book’s format and announcement, but not an official confirmation of a particular theory.
What did Yarros say about Ridoc and Book 4?
A separate report may help explain some confusion. Brit + Co’s coverage of a New York Mets Fourth Wing Night Q&A quotes Yarros saying of Ridoc, “I can tell you that right now as I am writing book 4, he is still currently among us.” The same report says she was plotting Book 5 alongside Book 4.
This is an author comment about Ridoc’s status while Yarros was writing the fourth novel, as reported by the event coverage. It is not a statement that a theory appears in or is confirmed by Threshing Day.

Should you read Threshing Day or wait for Book 4?
| What you want | What to look for |
|---|---|
| More Empyrean stories | Threshing Day, the thirteen-story collection. |
| The next main-series installment | Book 4. Yarros’s announcement described Threshing Day as a collection she was writing while working on Book 4. |
If you are looking for continuation of the Onyx Storm cliffhanger, do not assume Threshing Day is that continuation: the announcement identifies it as a collection, separate from Book 4. Marie Claire’s Empyrean series guide also notes that little concrete Book 4 plot information was public in its coverage.

For nearby release-calendar context, Yarros’s official Coming Soon page lists Peculiar Stars for November 17, 2026, and Fourth Wing Graphic Novel: Vol. 1 for April 6, 2027. Those releases are separate from the claim about a theory in Threshing Day.
