IronNet announced on September 29, 2023, that it had ceased all activities and terminated its remaining employees because it could not secure additional liquidity. That was not the end of the company: IronNet later filed for Chapter 11, resumed operations during the bankruptcy case, and announced on February 22, 2024, that it had emerged as a private company.

Did IronNet shut down?

Yes—temporarily. On September 29, 2023, IronNet said that a lack of additional liquidity had led it to cease activities at the company and its subsidiaries and terminate their remaining employees. In the same disclosure, it said it could not meet debts and related obligations. The filing described the company’s position at that moment; it did not establish that IronNet would remain closed permanently. IronNet’s September 29, 2023 SEC filing

What happened to IronNet after it stopped operating?

The company’s initial expectation was that it might need Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which generally involves liquidation. Instead, IronNet, Inc. and subsidiary IronNet Cybersecurity, Inc. filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions on October 12, 2023, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Chapter 11 allowed the company to pursue a court-supervised reorganization.

IronNet later reported that operations resumed in connection with the bankruptcy filing and that some employees who had been furloughed or terminated were rehired. The court confirmed IronNet’s joint reorganization plan on January 18, 2024. The plan provided for cancellation of existing equity securities and issuance of new common equity to holders of certain claims, among other provisions. What happened to IronNet customers during the shutdown?

IronNet’s bankruptcy filing said AWS had terminated cloud services after the September cessation. On October 13, 2023, the bankruptcy court entered an interim order allowing an agreement to reinstate those services. The filing described advance-payment requirements and AWS’s ability to suspend services if payment was not made.

This is a record of a historical arrangement during the bankruptcy case, not evidence that any particular customer’s service was restored, uninterrupted, or remains available today. Customers who need to know their account or product status should verify it directly with IronNet or their service provider.

Is IronNet still in business?

On February 22, 2024, IronNet announced that it had completed its restructuring and emerged from Chapter 11 as a private company. The company’s announcement named its IronDefense platform, but the announcement does not independently establish current ownership, product availability, or customer operations as of September 30, 2026. Why did IronNet cease operations?

In its September 2023 SEC disclosure, IronNet attributed the cessation to unavailable additional liquidity and said it could not satisfy its debts and related obligations. Its bankruptcy disclosures described efforts to obtain financing, continue servicing customers, and preserve intellectual property. These are the company’s stated circumstances and actions; they do not, by themselves, provide a complete independent account of every cause of its financial distress.

An Associated Press report published in October 2024 added allegations and disputes involving former employees, analysts, investors, and C5, and reported a proposed $6.6 million settlement of an investor class action. The AP reported that IronNet denied wrongdoing. A proposed settlement is not, by itself, an admission of wrongdoing. Associated Press report on IronNet
