Double Counter, a third-party Discord verification bot, was breached in October 2026. But available reporting does not confirm that millions of users’ IP addresses were exposed. Have I Been Pwned lists 275,000 unique email addresses and Discord usernames in a public corpus. A separate report attributes a much larger figure—about 28 million Discord usernames and IDs—to the incident, but that is not a verified count of people or IP addresses.
What happened to Double Counter?
Double Counter is a third-party bot used by Discord servers to verify members and detect suspected alternate accounts, VPNs, or proxies. Its operator identifies itself as Tellter SAS. It is not a Discord-operated feature. Double Counter’s privacy information says the verification process handles a user’s Discord ID and username, IP address, and technical browser data.
Have I Been Pwned’s breach listing says Double Counter suffered a breach in October 2026 attributed to a vulnerability in the Metabase analytics tool. The listing was added on October 7, 2026, and reports 274.9k affected email addresses, described as 275,000 unique email addresses and Discord usernames in the public corpus. A small number of subscriber records also included names, countries, and postcodes. Have I Been Pwned’s listing does not establish how many IP records were accessed or published.

No confirmed millions-scale IP-address total is established by the available reporting. AliasFleet, in a report published October 7, 2026, describes the incident report as involving about 12 GB of copied data and roughly 28 million Discord usernames and IDs. That figure is a secondary report about identifiers—not a verified count of unique people or IP addresses. AliasFleet’s report does not provide independent confirmation of an IP total.

Keep these quantities separate: email addresses, Discord usernames and IDs, IP values, and database records are not interchangeable counts. A database can contain multiple records for one account, and the number of identifiers does not reveal how many IP values were exposed. The incident-report URL is referenced in secondary coverage, but its detailed claims and any exact IP count are not independently established here.
How Double Counter gets IP data
Double Counter says it processes an IP address and browser data during its verification interaction, alongside Discord identifiers, to detect alternate accounts, VPNs, and proxies. It says server staff can see a verification outcome—such as verified, alt, or VPN—but cannot see the IP address itself. These are the company’s descriptions of its practices, not an independent audit of its data handling or security.

This distinction matters because Discord says it does not share users’ IP addresses with other users. Its safety guidance states, “Discord never shares your IP address with other users.” A member who follows an external verification link is interacting with a third-party service; do not confuse that interaction with an ordinary Discord bot receiving an IP address through the bot API. Secure your Discord account
- Use a unique, strong password, ideally stored in a password manager, and change it if you reused it elsewhere or suspect your account was compromised.
- Enable two-factor authentication and review your account for unfamiliar activity.
- Avoid unexpected verification links or other unfamiliar links, and report suspicious activity through Discord’s available channels.
Discord recommends these account-security steps. They can protect account access, but they cannot undo the exposure of data already copied from a third-party service.

Use Double Counter’s privacy channel
Double Counter says users can request access to or deletion of information associated with their Discord ID by using the bot’s /privacy command or its support channels. A deletion request may help with information the service still controls; it cannot remove copies already obtained or redistributed by someone else.
Be cautious about claims and follow-up messages
Do not treat a claim about millions of Discord IDs as proof that millions of IP addresses were leaked. Be wary of messages that use breach claims to solicit credentials, payments, or downloads, and do not enter your Discord password on an unfamiliar verification page.

What Discord’s rules say about automated accounts
Discord prohibits automating normal user accounts outside its OAuth2 and bot APIs. Its Trust & Safety Team says this can result in account termination if detected. That rule concerns self-bots; it does not establish what data Double Counter collected or what the breach exposed. Discord’s API and automation guidance describes the restriction.
