One early report said an unidentified 14-core, 20-thread Raptor Lake-P engineering sample outperformed Intel’s Core i9-12900HK in single- and multithreaded benchmark tests. That is a preliminary claim about a pre-release sample—not a verified test of a named retail processor or a shipping laptop.
What the benchmark report claimed
Notebookcheck reported on April 17, 2022, that a purported Raptor Lake-P mobile sample had appeared on UserBenchmark. The report, which attributed the discovery to tipster @momomo_us, said the chip beat the Core i9-12900HK in both single- and multithreaded workloads. It described the sample as having 14 cores and 20 threads, with a reported turbo frequency of 4.2 GHz. Those are details attributed to the alleged sample, not confirmed Intel specifications. Notebookcheck’s report does not provide a verified retail model identity or enough complete test information to establish a controlled, repeatable comparison.
What the Core i9-12900HK comparison means
The Core i9-12900HK is an Alder Lake mobile processor. Intel lists it with 14 cores—six performance cores and eight efficiency cores—20 threads, and a maximum turbo frequency of 5.00 GHz. Intel’s product specifications and its January 2022 launch announcement confirm those figures.
Matching the 12900HK’s core and thread counts does not identify the purported Raptor Lake sample. The report does not establish its final model name, the laptop it was tested in, or a complete primary benchmark record. It also does not provide enough verified detail about system configuration, power limits, cooling, software version, or repeatability to determine how comparable the test conditions were.

- With 32 GB DDR5 SDRAM of memory, users can run many programs without losing execution
- 15.6" display with 1920 x 1200 resolution showcases movies, games and photos with impressive clarity
- 1 TB SSD provides more productive performance and superior data storage for a variety of files including HD quality videos, movies, photos, music, and more
Does this prove Raptor Lake laptops were faster?
No. At most, the report records an early benchmark claim that one purported engineering sample scored ahead of the 12900HK in the two reported workload categories. It does not establish a percentage advantage or complete scores, and it cannot show how a final processor would perform across applications or in a shipping laptop. Battery life, thermals, and sustained performance are also not established by this result.
How the later Core i9-13900HK fits in
Intel’s product catalog includes a named Raptor Lake mobile processor, the Core i9-13900HK. Intel lists the Core i9-13900HK as a Raptor Lake product, but that does not show that it was the anonymous sample in the 2022 report. The available information does not connect the leaked benchmark entry to that retail SKU.

What remains unknown
- The exact processor model or SKU behind the benchmark entry.
- The laptop configuration and test conditions used.
- The full scores and whether the result could be reproduced.
Without those details, the reported result is best treated as an early indication—not a settled performance comparison.
