Verdict: Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection is a generous, replayable action RPG package that works well as a handheld game—provided you have a reliable internet connection. Nintendo Life reviewer Mitch Vogel rated the North American Switch 2 version Great, 8/10, praising its loot-driven progression, build experimentation, and amount of content while noting occasional performance hiccups and an open world that can feel underused. This is an attributed review assessment, not our own hands-on test.

What is in the Age of Hatred Collection?

The collection bundles the Diablo IV base game with both expansions: Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred. Nintendo describes it as the complete Age of Hatred story across multiple campaigns. That makes the package substantial for someone starting from scratch, but less straightforward for an existing player who may already own some of its contents.

Blizzard positions the collection as best suited to new players. If you already play Diablo IV, check your account entitlements before buying: the bundle includes the base game and both expansions, and Blizzard states that each expansion requires the base game.

Nintendo US announced the collection at a regular price of $69.99 on September 16, 2026. That is the US price listed at announcement, not a guarantee of what a retailer charges now. Nintendo UK’s listing describes a downloadable product and gives a 69.4 GB download size; that size and listing detail are specific to the UK and may differ by region. The listing confirms an eShop download, not the format of every third-party retail offer.

How does Diablo IV play on Switch 2?

Loot, builds, and replayability

Vogel’s strongest praise is for Diablo IV’s core loop: defeating enemies, collecting loot, improving a character, and trying different classes and builds. He describes the RPG as enjoyable and addictive, with the two expansions adding considerable campaign content. That combination gives the collection appeal beyond simply completing one story; experimenting with character builds is a central reason to keep playing.

A world that does not always make the most of its scale

The open world is a weaker point in Vogel’s assessment. He found it underused, so its breadth does not always translate into equally compelling exploration. The review still sees the overall package as content-rich, but players looking primarily for a consistently absorbing open-world experience should temper expectations.

Switch 2 performance: Quality or Performance mode?

Blizzard lists two graphics modes. Quality favors resolution, while Performance targets a higher frame rate at 1080p. The targets and display condition are:

Mode Handheld Docked Trade-off
Quality 30 fps target at 1080p 30 fps target at 1440p Higher docked resolution, lower frame-rate target
Performance 40 fps target at 1080p 40 fps target at 1080p; requires a compatible display rated at 120 Hz or higher Higher frame-rate target at 1080p

These are Blizzard’s stated targets, not guarantees that every scene or update will hold them. In his review testing, Vogel preferred Performance mode and reported that Quality was less consistent at maintaining its 30 fps target. He also observed that enemy animations could look simplified when many enemies filled the screen in Performance mode. Treat those as his observations from the reviewed version, not a claim about every patch or play session.

Can you play Diablo 4 offline on Switch 2?

No. Nintendo UK’s product listing says persistent internet access and a Battle.net account are required. Nintendo Life reports that losing the connection sends players back to the home screen. That requirement changes what portable play means: handheld mode is supported, but a commute, flight, or trip without dependable Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity may interrupt a session.

How well does it work as a portable and multiplayer game?

Nintendo UK lists handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, with one-to-two players on a single system and online play for up to four. The portable presentation was among the strengths Vogel praised, but portability does not remove the always-online requirement.

Is Diablo IV worth it on Switch 2?

For a newcomer who wants the base game and both expansions in one package, the collection has a strong case: its loot and character-building loop supports replay, and the Switch 2 version offers handheld play as well as docked and tabletop modes. Vogel’s Great 8/10 rating reflects that breadth and enjoyment, balanced against occasional performance issues and an open world he found underused.
