The Dell XPS 710 H2C was a premium gaming desktop distinguished by a hybrid, two-stage processor-cooling system. It was not one fixed specification: contemporary reports describe configurations ranging from a Core 2 Extreme X6800 with a GeForce 7900 GS to a Core 2 QX6700 with two GeForce 8800 GTX cards. For identification and service, Dell’s XPS 710 H2C support page lists a dedicated service manual and setup diagram.
What was the Dell XPS 710 H2C?
Launched in 2007, the XPS 710 H2C was a high-end variant of Dell’s XPS 710 gaming desktop. Its defining feature was a hybrid processor-cooling assembly that combined liquid cooling with a thermoelectric (TEC) heat exchanger. PC Watch described the system as Dell’s first hybrid cooling system in a desktop and identified H2C with the phrases “Hybrid two-stage Cooling” and “Hot to Cool.” These are translated descriptions from its Japanese report, not verified English quotations. PC Watch’s January 10, 2007 report describes a radiator and TEC exchanger working around a 120 mm fan to cool the liquid in two stages. Improved heat rejection and reduced noise were design aims; the report does not provide quantified results proving either outcome.
HotHardware separately characterized the XPS 710 H2C as Dell’s first non-limited-edition factory-overclocked computer and its first in-house liquid-cooling system. Those descriptions reflect the contemporary 2007 evaluation, not a claim about Dell’s later products. HotHardware’s February 19, 2007 evaluation covers the tested configuration.

Specifications varied by configuration and market. The figures below are examples from two contemporary reports, not a universal specification sheet.

PC Watch also listed Sound Blaster X-Fi and a PhysX card among the possible options. These details, like the 1 kW supply and chassis color, belong to that specific launch report and should not be assumed for every H2C sold in every region.
How did the H2C cooling system work?
The system used a processor cooling assembly connected to a liquid loop. In PC Watch’s description, a radiator and a thermoelectric exchanger arranged with a 120 mm fan cooled the liquid in two stages. A TEC device transfers heat using electrical power; in this design it formed part of the cooling path rather than replacing the radiator. The available report describes the architecture and its goals, but does not establish measured temperatures, noise levels, or a performance gain that applies to every system.

Where can you find service documentation?
Dell’s XPS 710 H2C support page lists both an H2C-specific Service Manual and Setup Diagram. Dell dates the listed service-manual update to March 14, 2013. The page confirms that documentation is listed; it does not establish current parts stock or repair-service availability.

The processor heatsink is attached to the liquid-cooling assembly, so the processor and cooling hardware are linked during service. A manual excerpt mirrored by ManualsLib says thermal grease is critical to adequate thermal bonding and should be applied to the processor as needed when reinstalling the assembly. Because that detail is from a third-party mirror, verify the exact procedure in Dell’s manual rather than treating the excerpt as a complete set of instructions. What should you check before restoring or buying one?
Historical configurations make the model name alone insufficient to establish what a particular machine contains. Compare the actual unit’s components and condition rather than assuming it matches either contemporary review configuration.
- Processor model and graphics-card model and count.
- Installed memory and drive arrangement, including whether drives are configured in RAID.
- Power-supply rating and region-specific configuration, if documented for that unit.
- Condition and completeness of the proprietary H2C cooling assembly, plus any service history.
- Physical condition and whether the system can be safely powered and tested.
If processor service requires replacing thermal grease, search for CPU thermal paste as the relevant consumable. Choose a product only after checking compatibility and following safe application instructions; no particular brand, current listing, or product upgrade is established here. Current used-market prices, parts availability, and compatibility of replacement components are likewise not established by the historical reports or Dell’s documentation listing.
