The current Dell XPS 14, model DA14260, could suit students who want a premium, roughly 3-pound Windows laptop with a 14-inch display. It is not automatically the “ultimate” college laptop: its USB-C-only connectors may require an adapter, its battery-life headline comes from a specific Dell streaming test, and course software requirements vary. Check the exact configuration and your school’s requirements before buying.
Which Dell XPS 14 is this?
This article covers Dell’s current US XPS 14 Laptop, model DA14260. It is distinct from the 2025 DA14250, so specifications for the older model should not be applied to this one. Dell’s DA14260 listing displays a base configuration with an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor (8 cores), Windows 11 Home, Intel Arc graphics, 16 GB LPDDR5X memory, a 512 GB SSD, and a 14-inch 1920×1200 display. A selectable higher configuration is shown with a Core Ultra 7 358H, 32 GB memory, a 1 TB SSD, and the same listed 1920×1200 non-touch display. Dell’s technical specifications describe a 2K panel with a 1–120 Hz refresh rate and 500 nits. Since product-page sections and available configurations can vary, confirm the exact screen and components for the SKU you intend to order.
The US listing showed a price of $1,849.99 when accessed on October 7, 2026. That is a dated listing snapshot, not a guaranteed current or permanent price; Dell’s offers, inventory, and configurations can change.

Dell lists a starting weight of 3.00 lb (1.36 kg) for the 2.8K OLED option and 3.05 lb (1.38 kg) for the 2K LCD option. The listed footprint is 12.19 by 8.26 inches, with height varying by panel. That makes the XPS 14 a relatively light 14-inch option on paper, but check the weight for the display configuration you choose. These figures do not include a separately measured charger or other items in a student’s bag.

Will its ports work with your classroom gear?
The DA14260 listing specifies three Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort 2.1 and power delivery, plus a universal audio jack. It does not list built-in USB-A, HDMI, or a card reader. If you use a USB flash drive, connect to a classroom projector, or need several peripherals at once, check the connectors those devices require and whether your setup calls for a compatible USB-C hub or adapter. Verify that any accessory supports the specific display, data, and charging functions you need.
How long does the XPS 14 battery last?
Dell advertises up to 31 hours of streaming battery life with the 2K display at 250 nits. Dell says that result comes from a January 2026 Dell Labs Netflix streaming test on an XPS 14 configured with an Intel Core Ultra 7 355, Intel Graphics, 2K LCD, 16 GB memory, and a 1 TB SSD. Wireless was enabled and brightness was set to 250 nits. Dell warns that actual battery life can be significantly lower and varies with configuration, software, usage, operating conditions, and power settings; battery capacity also declines over time. Dell’s student listing presents the figure as a streaming result, not a guarantee of a full day of lectures, research, video calls, or creative work. The test’s Core Ultra 7 355 configuration also differs from the currently displayed base Core Ultra 5 setup.

Is it compatible with your college coursework?
That depends on the school, course, and software. The listed base configuration runs Windows 11 Home, but the product specifications alone cannot establish whether it meets a particular program’s requirements. Before ordering, check your department’s stated operating-system, processor, memory, storage, graphics, and peripheral requirements, especially for specialized engineering, design, media, or lab applications. Compare those requirements with the exact DA14260 configuration—not just the XPS 14 name.

How to decide whether it fits your needs
- It may be a fit if you want a premium 14-inch Windows laptop, value the listed near-3-pound starting weight, and can choose a configuration that meets your course needs.
- Check the setup carefully if your classes rely on USB-A devices, HDMI displays, card readers, or several wired peripherals; those connectors are not listed as built in.
- Don’t buy based on the battery headline alone. The 31-hour claim describes Dell’s specified streaming test, not a typical student workload.
- Confirm the price and SKU at checkout. The listed price and selectable configurations can change, and panel choice affects the listed starting weight.
