The 2026 Dell XPS 14 (DA14260) stays quiet and thermally controlled in HotHardware’s testing, and both tested configurations delivered strong battery results. The 2K LCD model is the more practical choice for endurance and price; the Tandem OLED model offers richer contrast and HDR appeal, with a runtime trade-off. The laptop’s lack of USB-A and disappointing storage performance on the reviewed units are notable drawbacks.
What HotHardware tested
David Altavilla’s HotHardware review, published February 20, 2026, covers the Dell XPS 14 model DA14260, built around Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. The review describes a range from Core Ultra 5 325 to Core Ultra X9 388H, with 16 GB to 64 GB of memory. Its two tested systems were:
| Configuration | Processor and memory | Display |
|---|---|---|
| LCD review unit | Core Ultra 5 355, 8 cores, 16 GB RAM | 1920×1200 IPS LCD, non-touch, 500 nits, 1–120 Hz |
| OLED review unit | Core Ultra 358H, 16 cores, 32 GB RAM | 2880×1800 Tandem OLED, touch, 400 nits, adaptive 20–120 Hz |
HotHardware lists Dolby Vision support for both panels and DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification for OLED. These are review-page configuration details, not confirmation that every option is currently sold in every market. See HotHardware’s full XPS 14 review.
How hot and loud does the XPS 14 get?
HotHardware describes a cooling system with two larger, thinner fans, upgraded heat pipes, layered graphite thermal materials, side intakes and rear exhaust. In light use, the tested laptop was effectively silent. Under sustained CPU and GPU loads, fan noise rose smoothly rather than abruptly; the publication reported less than 40 dB for its Core Ultra X7 system.

During a continuous 3DMark Speedway loop, HotHardware measured the warmest bottom area at about 100°F and the top edge at about 96°F. Those are observations from the review’s test conditions, not guaranteed temperatures for other workloads, rooms or configurations. The reviewer’s detailed thermals and acoustics findings provide the relevant context.
How long does the 2026 Dell XPS 14 battery last?
Both tested configurations use a 70 Wh battery, but panel and workload affect runtime. HotHardware says its 2K LCD system exceeded a standard workday in mixed, light-use conditions. The Tandem OLED unit ran for more than 19 hours in the publication’s controlled PCMark Video Playback test. That video-playback result is not a prediction for a typical workday: brightness, applications and workload can change real-world battery life substantially. The review does not provide a legible exact runtime for the LCD unit, so a precise figure for that configuration cannot be established from its published chart.

LCD or OLED: which XPS 14 configuration makes sense?
- Choose the LCD configuration if office work, battery efficiency and a lower purchase price matter most. Its 1920×1200 panel is non-touch and HotHardware specifies 500 nits with a 1–120 Hz range.
- Consider OLED if higher contrast, HDR media or color-oriented creative work is worth the added cost and runtime trade-off. The tested 2880×1800 Tandem OLED is touch-enabled, reaches 400 nits according to the review page, and has an adaptive 20–120 Hz range.

Ports, storage and other trade-offs
The roughly three-pound, approximately 15 mm-thick chassis has three Thunderbolt 4 ports with DisplayPort 2.1 and power delivery, plus a headphone jack. It has no USB-A port. A compatible USB-C or Thunderbolt dock or adapter can address a need to connect legacy USB-A devices, though HotHardware did not test or endorse a specific accessory.

HotHardware criticized the Gen 4 drives in its two tested machines for lackluster storage performance, even though higher configurations are offered with PCIe Gen 5 storage. That criticism applies to the reviewed drives, not automatically to every DA14260 configuration. The reviewer also praised the tested laptop’s sound, keyboard and trackpad, construction, graphics and AI performance.
What did the XPS 14 cost at review time?
HotHardware reported a $1,349 starting price, $1,449 for the LCD/16 GB review configuration, and $2,199.99 for the tested OLED-equipped higher-end configuration in its February 2026 review. These are historical review-era prices, not current quotes. Check the current offer and verify that it is for model DA14260 and the configuration you want; older XPS 14 model DA14250 listings are a different model.

HotHardware’s verdict and the broader review picture
Altavilla summed up the design as: “The new Dell XPS 14 (DAA14260) is less about dramatic reinvention and more about disciplined refinement.” The model number appears with that typographical rendering in the quoted sentence; elsewhere the review identifies the product as DA14260. HotHardware awarded Editor’s Choice and characterized the laptop as a balanced, quiet and efficient premium system with compelling LCD and OLED options.

Notebookcheck’s XPS 14 (2026) review collection likewise records praise for premium aluminum construction, portability, OLED and battery life, alongside concerns about price, limited ports and keyboard or touchpad quirks. It aggregates separate reviews rather than reporting a single controlled comparison, so its entries should be read as differing reviewer assessments, not one unified test.
