The Dell UltraSharp U3223QE is a 31.5-inch 4K, 60 Hz monitor built for desk productivity: its biggest advantage is combining USB-C laptop charging, a USB hub, Ethernet and KVM support in one display. Its main compromises are a standard 60 Hz refresh rate and no built-in speakers. It makes the most sense if you want a large work screen and fewer cables, not if high-refresh gaming is your priority.
What are the U3223QE’s main pros and cons?
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 31.5-inch 4K UHD workspace at 3840 × 2160 | 60 Hz refresh rate, not a high-refresh gaming specification |
| USB-C connection with up to 90 W power delivery, plus USB ports and Ethernet | No built-in speakers |
| KVM functionality for sharing peripherals between computers | Panel specifications do not establish uniformity or the performance of every individual unit |
| Height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments | IPS Black is not OLED-level black performance |
What makes it useful as a work monitor?
A laptop dock built into the display
Dell lists USB-C video with up to 90 W power delivery, along with USB upstream and downstream ports, HDMI, DisplayPort and Ethernet. With a compatible laptop, one USB-C connection can carry video and charge the computer; the monitor’s hub can also reduce the number of separate desk connections. Check that your laptop supports video over USB-C and that 90 W is enough for its charging needs. Dell’s US specifications list the connection and power features.
KVM for sharing a keyboard and mouse
Dell’s datasheet lists KVM and Auto KVM functionality. This can let you switch shared peripherals between connected computers, but you need to connect the relevant upstream paths and configure the setup. KVM is for controlling multiple computers with shared peripherals; it does not turn the monitor into a second display. Dell’s datasheet describes the KVM features.
A spacious 4K desktop
The 31.5-inch diagonal and 3840 × 2160 resolution provide room for detailed documents, spreadsheets and creative applications. Text and interface elements may appear small at native resolution, so you may want to adjust operating-system scaling to suit your viewing distance and preferences. Dell lists these display specifications on its UK product page.

How good is the panel for color and contrast?
Dell lists an IPS Black panel, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m² brightness, 100% sRGB, 100% Rec. 709 and 98% DCI-P3. These are manufacturer specifications, not proof of the measured uniformity or color accuracy of every unit. For work that depends on critical color accuracy, consult independent measurements for the configuration you are considering rather than treating gamut coverage alone as a calibration guarantee.
IPS Black should not be mistaken for OLED-level black performance. Dell’s listed contrast ratio is 2000:1. Reviewers have characterized the panel differently: PCWorld highlighted IPS Black, while TechRadar was more critical. The available review context does not provide equivalent measurements to settle the comparison. RTINGS’ surfaced results cite firmware M3T104, so measurements from that review should not automatically be applied to every firmware version or current unit. See the RTINGS review.

Where does it fall short?
60 Hz limits its appeal for fast-motion gaming
Dell specifies a 60 Hz refresh rate. That is suitable for general desktop work and casual gaming, but it is not the high-refresh experience sought by players who prioritize smoother fast motion. The U3223QE is usable for games; the limitation is its refresh-rate ceiling, not an inability to display them.

Check price and availability in your region
Price and stock are volatile. At the time of the cited product-page snapshot, Dell’s US page listed $919.99 and showed the monitor temporarily out of stock; the UK page listed £834 including VAT, or £695 excluding VAT. Those are regional snapshots, not enduring price guidance. Check your local listing and compare current alternatives before deciding whether the feature set justifies the price. Dell US and Dell UK show their respective regional listings.
Who should buy the U3223QE?
It is a good fit if
- You want a 31.5-inch 4K screen mainly for office or professional work.
- Your laptop supports video over USB-C and can use up to 90 W charging.
- You want an Ethernet and USB hub in the monitor and may share peripherals across computers.
- You value flexible height, pivot, swivel and tilt adjustments.
Consider another type of monitor if
- High-refresh gaming is a priority.
- You require built-in speakers.
- Its current local price is high compared with newer displays that better match your needs.
What should you compare before choosing?
When weighing the U3223QE against another 32-inch-class 4K monitor, compare refresh rate, measured contrast and black performance, USB-C power delivery, upstream and downstream port types, KVM behavior, Ethernet, stand adjustments, speakers, current local price and warranty. These determine whether its hub-oriented design is more useful to you than another display’s priorities.
