The Dell Latitude 7390 2-in-1 is a flexible 13.3-inch business convertible with a sharp touch display, optional pen support, useful ports, and higher-tier configurations built around quad-core 8th-generation Intel processors. It can make sense as a carefully checked used laptop, but the model name alone does not tell you whether a particular unit has enough memory, the options you need, or a healthy battery.

What the Latitude 7390 2-in-1 is

The Latitude 7390 2-in-1 is a 2018-era business laptop that folds into tablet and stand-style positions. It is the convertible counterpart to the conventional Latitude 7390 clamshell—not the Dell XPS 13 7390 or an Inspiron 7390. Dell offered 7th- and 8th-generation Intel Core processor families in the convertible, so performance depends on the specific configuration.

The reviewed higher-tier machines show what the model could offer: Notebookcheck tested an Intel Core i7-8650U system with 16 GB of memory and a 500 GB NVMe SSD; HotHardware reviewed an i7-8650U configuration with 16 GB and a 512 GB NVMe SSD. Those reviews do not describe every used 7390. Laptop Mag, for example, criticized an entry configuration with an i3 processor, 4 GB of memory, and a 128 GB SSD at its then-over-$1,000 launch price. That historical price is not current buying guidance. Notebookcheck’s review, HotHardware’s review, and Laptop Mag’s review cover their respective test configurations.

Display, touch, and pen support

Dell specifies a 13.3-inch, 1920 × 1080 touch display with Gorilla Glass 4 and anti-reflective, anti-smudge treatment. Its rated brightness is 255 nits, a modest specification by current expectations; a bright room may make the screen less comfortable than a brighter panel. The display rating is a manufacturer specification, not a measurement of the condition or brightness of an individual used unit. Dell’s technical specifications list the panel features.

Yes, the 7390 2-in-1 supports an active pen, but Dell describes it as optional and sold separately. HotHardware identifies the Dell PN557W Active Pen as the pen used with its review system. If handwriting or annotation matters, confirm the pen is compatible with the exact machine and included in the seller’s listing; the laptop may not come with one. HotHardware’s review identifies its pen, and Dell’s specifications describe pen support.

Performance and memory: check the exact configuration

Dell’s options include Core i3, i5, and i7 processors from 7th- and 8th-generation Intel families. The difference between a lower-end listing and the i7-8650U/16 GB review systems is substantial enough that it is unwise to judge performance from the 7390 name alone. Identify the exact processor model and installed RAM before buying, and match them to your workload.

Memory is onboard LPDDR3 rather than a user-upgradeable module. Dell lists 8 GB and 16 GB configurations, so buy the amount you need already installed. Dell also lists multiple M.2 SATA and PCIe storage configurations; check the actual SSD capacity and interface rather than assuming a particular drive from the model name. Dell’s specifications document the memory and storage options.

Business ports and optional security features

Dell lists two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, USB-C with DisplayPort output, HDMI 1.4, microSD, and a microSIM slot on WWAN systems. USB-C is not automatically Thunderbolt: Thunderbolt 3 is an option, not a feature to assume on every unit. Notebookcheck also notes that the laptop lacks Ethernet, so a wired network connection may require an adapter. Dell’s port specifications and Notebookcheck’s review describe the available connections.

The manual lists TPM 2.0 and optional fingerprint reader, smart-card reader, and IR camera features. WWAN, Thunderbolt, and these security options are configuration-dependent. Inspect the actual hardware and ask the seller to demonstrate any feature that matters; a generic product listing may not establish which options are installed.

Keyboard, battery, and condition in a used unit

Input comfort

Laptop Mag praised the display, performance, and battery life in its 2018 review, but found the keyboard keys and touchpad small. That is a reviewer’s assessment of its test unit, not a guarantee that every buyer will find the input devices uncomfortable. If possible, try the keyboard and touchpad before purchase, particularly if this will be your primary work machine. Laptop Mag’s review gives its test-specific impressions.

Battery

Dell lists 45 Wh and 60 Wh battery options. Laptop Mag reported more than 10 hours of battery life in its 2018 review context, but that result should not be applied to a used laptop years later: battery age and wear affect actual runtime. Ask for a battery-health report or test the unit unplugged, and treat the original review figure as historical rather than a present-day expectation.

Screen, hinge, and ports

For a convertible, check that touch input works across the screen and that the hinge moves smoothly and holds its position in laptop, tent, and tablet modes. Inspect the display for damage and test the ports you intend to use. The published specifications describe the model’s capabilities, not the condition of a particular secondhand machine.

How to decide whether it is worth buying

The Latitude 7390 2-in-1 is most compelling when you want a compact convertible, touch operation, business-oriented connectivity, or a pen-capable screen, and the specific listing has suitable specifications and condition. It is a weaker fit if you need memory expansion, a bright display for demanding light conditions, a built-in Ethernet port, or a dependable runtime without verifying battery health.

Before committing, compare the total cost with newer used alternatives rather than relying on the laptop’s 2018 launch price or review verdict. Earlier reviews named the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga and HP EliteBook x360 G2 as contemporaries, but that historical context does not establish today’s prices or which is the better current purchase.

Used-unit checklist

  • Confirm the exact CPU model, installed RAM, and SSD capacity and interface.
  • Verify touch input, display condition, and hinge operation in multiple convertible positions.
  • Check battery health and, if practical, observe runtime while unplugged.
  • Confirm whether Thunderbolt 3, WWAN, fingerprint reader, smart-card reader, or IR camera is present if you need it.
  • Test the keyboard, touchpad, and required ports; account for the lack of built-in Ethernet if wired networking matters.
  • Confirm whether an active pen is included, and check compatibility if you plan to use one.
  • Compare the asking price and condition with newer used options available to you.
