The Dell Latitude 5590 with a Core i5-8250U and matte 15.6-inch FHD IPS screen can still make sense as a low-cost office laptop if the specific used unit is in good condition. Notebookcheck’s 2018 test found capable everyday performance, a comfortable keyboard, useful business ports and straightforward serviceability. Its measured screen was not very bright and covered limited color space, while its battery result describes a new test sample—not what to expect from an aging battery today.
Configuration matters: memory, storage, battery and even display panels can vary between Latitude 5590 units. Assess the particular machine rather than assuming every system matches the review sample.
What configuration did Notebookcheck review?
Notebookcheck published its review on March 21, 2018. The tested configuration had a four-core, eight-thread Intel Core i5-8250U, 8 GB of DDR4-2400 memory, a 256 GB SSD, Intel UHD Graphics 620 and a matte 15.6-inch 1920 × 1080 IPS display. The review cautions that manufacturers may source panels and storage from different suppliers, so its measurements apply to that sample rather than every Latitude 5590.
Before buying, check the seller’s listing and, where possible, the laptop itself for its exact RAM, SSD, display panel and battery. Dell’s Latitude 5590 support page provides the owner manual and other model documents.

How well does it perform for everyday work?
Notebookcheck considered the i5-8250U suitable for everyday office tasks and found good multithreaded results in its test system. In its Cinebench R15 multi-loop test, the laptop scored 696 points on the first pass and 620 on the second, showing that performance fell under sustained load. Those are results from the review’s 2018 sample, not a guarantee for a used machine with different cooling, memory, storage or condition.
For typical office work, the tested 8 GB of RAM and SSD made for a responsive experience. A used machine with less memory, a different drive or thermal issues may feel slower. Notebookcheck praised the keyboard and serviceability, both practical advantages for a business laptop. For a used purchase, weigh the actual memory and storage configuration against your workload instead of choosing by processor label alone.

Is the Latitude 5590 screen good?
The tested matte IPS panel offered wide viewing angles and strong contrast, but its brightness and color coverage were limited. Notebookcheck measured an average brightness of about 243 cd/m², 83% brightness distribution and a 1,279:1 contrast ratio. Its measured coverage was 60.8% of sRGB and 39.2% of AdobeRGB.

That makes the sample panel adequate for documents, browsing and general office use, but a poor choice for color-critical photo or design work. These measurements describe one review unit; verify the exact panel and its condition in the laptop you are considering.

How long does the Latitude 5590 battery last?
Notebookcheck’s 2018 sample had a 51 Wh battery. In its controlled tests, it lasted 7 hours 24 minutes during Wi-Fi browsing with the screen set to about 150 cd/m², 6 hours 41 minutes during H.264 video playback and 1 hour 22 minutes under maximum load. The Wi-Fi result is the most useful reference for light browsing, but it is not a prediction for an aged battery or every work pattern.
The review also recorded 17 hours 24 minutes at idle under low-brightness, Wi-Fi-off conditions; that is not a realistic mixed-workday estimate. Recharging took nearly two hours in the review. Battery age, wear, replacement history, screen brightness and workload all affect runtime, so check battery condition before buying.

Which ports and features does it offer?
The reviewed model had three USB-A ports, USB-C with DisplayPort output, an SD card reader, Ethernet, HDMI, VGA and a headset combo jack. That mix can be convenient for business peripherals and older projectors. Mobile broadband and security options are configuration-dependent, so do not assume they are fitted to every 5590.

Can you upgrade or repair a Latitude 5590?
Notebookcheck praised the laptop’s ease of serviceability, and Dell provides a Latitude 5590 owner manual and related documents for the model. Consult the manual for the unit’s configuration and follow its instructions before opening or servicing the laptop.
A replacement battery may be an option, but there is no single part number established for every Latitude 5590. Match a prospective battery to the original battery label and verify compatibility using the laptop’s service tag, connector and capacity. Dell’s documentation and iFixit’s Latitude 5590 repair resources can help with model-specific repair information.
Is a used Latitude 5590 worth buying?
It can be a reasonable office laptop if its condition, configuration and asking price fit your needs. The available evidence does not establish current used-market prices or inventory, so compare the specific listing with newer refurbished business laptops rather than treating the 2018 launch price as a current benchmark.

- Battery: Ask about battery wear, replacement history and expected runtime.
- Display: Confirm the panel type, resolution and condition; do not assume the tested IPS panel is fitted.
- Memory and storage: Verify installed RAM and SSD capacity against your workload.
- Ports and options: Confirm required connectors and any optional mobile broadband or security features.
- Physical condition: Inspect the keyboard, screen, chassis and charger.
- Purchase terms: Compare price, warranty and return window with other available refurbished systems.
- Software needs: Verify that the operating system and applications you intend to use are supported; that status is not established here.
The 5590 is most compelling when a well-maintained unit offers the ports and configuration you need at a price that compares favorably with newer refurbished alternatives. Its display is a limitation for color-sensitive work, and a used battery should be judged on its present condition rather than the original test result.
