To enable a built-in privacy screen on a Dell laptop, open BIOS/System Setup and look for Privacy Screen under Video or Display. On the documented Latitude 7300, select Enabled, save and exit, then press Fn+F9 to switch between public and privacy modes. These controls are model-specific, and the BIOS option appears only when the installed display supports e-Privacy.
Enable the built-in privacy screen
Use your exact Dell model’s manual for the BIOS-entry procedure and menu labels. Dell’s Latitude 7300 Service Manual documents the following settings, but other Dell models may differ:
- Restart and enter BIOS/System Setup. Follow the method in the manual for your model rather than assuming a universal key.
- Open Video or Display and find Privacy Screen. On the Latitude 7300, Dell says this option is available only if the panel supports the feature.
- Select Enabled if you want to switch privacy mode on and off yourself. The Latitude 7300 manual also lists Always On; select it only if you want privacy mode fixed on, because the user cannot turn it off in that setting.
- Save your change and exit BIOS. On the Latitude 7300, press Fn+F9 to switch between public and privacy modes. If that shortcut does not work on your laptop, check its manual for the correct key combination.
Why there may be no Privacy Screen setting
The integrated privacy screen is a capability of a compatible display panel, not a feature that every Dell laptop can gain through a software setting. Dell’s Latitude 7300 manual states that the option enables or disables the feature only if the panel supports it. The Latitude 7300 specifications list Dynamic Privacy Dell SafeScreen as a display configuration, illustrating that availability depends on the laptop’s exact configuration.

- Check the specifications for your exact model and display configuration, using the service tag if needed.
- Consult that model’s manual for the BIOS menu name and keyboard shortcut.
- If the panel does not support e-Privacy, installing a driver or changing BIOS settings will not add the built-in feature.
Built-in privacy screen versus a physical filter
A built-in dynamic privacy screen is integrated into a supported display and may have BIOS controls and a keyboard toggle. A physical privacy filter is a separate accessory attached to the screen; it does not use the BIOS setting. Dell provides an installation guide for its Latitude privacy filter. If you choose a physical filter, match it to your display’s dimensions and aspect ratio, and confirm compatibility with your specific laptop before buying.
